How to build buildings?
« on: October 04, 2011, 09:30:55 am »
Okay, I'm sure this is exceedingly straightforward, but sue me, I'm a blind git.  Searched, googled, quested, NADA.  How do you actually build?  I'm currently civ lv 5, and just struggling to do anything beyond going ever further away from camp and finding bosses.  I can build windfarms in other settlements, but other than that... :(  Sorry if I've missed something obvious!

On a sidenote, well done to Arcen and the community on the awesome development+feedback process on this forum.  This entire week has been kind of amazing to watch :)

*facepalm*

Also, Q: best newbie resources?  I've dug through the "Getting Started", but is there anything good I've missed?

Yeah, it's Civ Level 6. As for resources, IMO, go find yourself some more spell books, then go find tier II crystals (found in regions level 5-10) to make some more powerful spells. ;-)

It might be a good idea to change the strategic part of the game so that you don't get access to it until you can actually do something with it. But then, I know that half of the game is still mostly work in progress, so I'll hold off complaining (much) until later. :)

Well, iirc you can use npc scouting at the same level you get access to the strategy map (3), and that's probably the most adventure-relevant thing that you can do with it at all at this point :)

In my probably 8 hours or so playing, I've found one spell book, and a crap load of materials and shards.

Go to towns and skip past anything that doesn't have 'house' in the name. The houses, explore specifically for studies and libraries. It's possible to find spell books in office buildings, but so rare that it's usually not worth it, so just stick to houses. Doing this, I've learned every spell that's in the game and I have a spare book left over.

I did a similar thing chasing Death Touch. Took a couple of hours, tops, to unlock every recipe.
