Poll: What Most Needs Done For The Strategy Game?
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:05:07 am »
Nominations from: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,12412.0.html (I may have missed some, but I think I got all the ones that didn't appear to be from confusion about what's already in place)

Anyway, let us know which of these is most important to you :)  Some of the stuff in place for the next version is related to some of these, and work is already planned that relates to others, but it's still very helpful for us to know which are the more "burning" issues for the players so we know what to prioritize and pay particular attention to.

Thanks!

Tough poll. I like all of these ideas. Hopefully the ones that don't make the cut right now can get implemented at a later date because that's a lot of nice quality of life stuff in there.

I agree, I would pretty much like all of these.

When push comes to shove though, I push for interface improvements over balance tweaking stuff. I know how much developers love balance tweaking, and need that extra push if they are ever going to work on improving the UI.  ;D

Absolutely agree with Mick.

This is sort of game that doesn't need overly extensive balance testing (especially since it's not a PvP game), and a lot of the balance stuff is easily picked up through observation.

That said, the UI improvements, including those additions from 0.800 have helped tremendously in making AVWW2 an enjoyable experience!
I'm probably typing this on my phone. Sorry if it seems short or disjointed :(

Ok, the poll rankings look pretty set now :)  We're working on it.

And yes, just because an item didn't "win" doesn't mean it won't be done, but it will get a lower priority (and may or may not get done at all, as we have a limited amount of time remaining, but we'll see how feedback in the future goes).

Thus far these are in:

Quote
* One of the winners of the recent "What Most Needs Done For The Strategy Game?" poll: added a "Skip Tutorial" option to the start-new-world popup.
** Please remember, if you're playing to help us test, that we want folks to test the tutorial too.  Not every single time, but remember the lonely tutorial!
** Specifically, using this setting:
*** Starts the game on Turn 3, to skip the tutorial.
*** Starts you on the world map.
*** Puts one of your soldiers on the initial farmland tile.
*** Puts your other soldier on the initial clinic site tile.
*** Converts the initial clinic site tile to an actual clinic.
**** And deducts the scrap cost from your scrap stockpile.
*** Adds 1 turn worth of farmland production to your food stockpile.
*** Adds 4 turns (2* 2 NPCs) worth of grassland-shack food and scrap scavenging to your food and scrap stockpiles.
*** Adds 1 morale (for building the clinic).
*** Does two random purifications.
** Thanks to chemical_art, Misery, Pepisolo, Penumbra, and the poll voters for inspiring (and, in some cases, capital-letters-demanding) this change.

* One of the winners of the recent "What Most Needs Done For The Strategy Game?" poll: Now when on the world map looking at the details on a region (either in the lower-left window or the interaction menu) that can have perk tokens (caverns, city hall, chateau, and pyramid), it will tell you "Collected X of Y Perk Tokens"; where Y is the most that can seed in that region and X is the number you've already picked up there.
** Note that old worlds won't have recorded the tokens already picked up, so the display will be off for regions where you've already picked up perk tokens before updating to this version or later.
** Thanks to madcow, Mick, Misery, nas1m, and the poll voters for inspiring this change.

We've also done some of the underlying plumbing needed for animating the overlord/monster world-map movement, but that may take a while longer to actually get done.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Will this also modify the "first time doing something" popups?

Several of them won't happen simply because the circumstances won't happen.  Others will still happen.  I didn't want to have it skip everything later on that gives you info because there's a lot of later-turn info that you may not have even gotten to in previous games.  Also, most of the individual bits of info are easy to skip if you use the cancel-stops-text-interjection setting.

But as you find things that you want suppressed by this, or if the starting setup it generates is somehow off from what you think it should be on turn 3, or whatever; then let me know :)

I was more curious than anything. This way certainly seems to have less risk than modifying the popup states.

Also, I promise to go through the whole tutorial at least once a version ;)

Given the frequency of versions sometimes, I'm not sure I'd wish that on anyone ;)
