Thoughts?

Materials is the more common term for things you can make into other things in a game. I do sort of agree that commodities sounds more like a term you'd hear in your economics class. Neither term really jumps out as amazing to me, but I've never put much though into it. Ingredients and rare ingredients? Stuff and super special shiny stuff?
-
Goods and rare goods?
Bear in mind that some of these are used as construction materials, and some are used as crafting materials. So materials or goods strikes me as more appropriate than ingredients, although if it was crafting-only that wouldn't be half bad.
-
Whilst personally I always think of them as "Resources" and would vote that way if pushed, I don't actually care much, Commodities makes perfect sense.
-
Resources , Rare / Precious Resources
or
Materials , Rare Materials
I tend towards Resources, its the standard word in games, no need to deviate imo ;p
my stance on resources.. haha, you see, resources already works for me. I already called them resources in the game, its what got me confused in the help text.
-
Okay, I added an option for resources. Feel free to change your votes! I actually like that the best, too.
EDIT: Also, I think that "precious" is probably better than "rare," because while the "rare" ones are harder to get, they aren't actually more rare in the sense of being that difficult to find in the end.
-
Then maybe valuable resources would be better, precious resources has too many c, ou and s , it sounds.. like we drank too much whiskey (try saying precious resources 10 times in quick succession ;p)
-
True. Okay, I've got it: common and uncommon resources. :)
-
But uncommon is a different word for rare ;) :D :D :o
Hehe, i think we should set up a council with 12 voted representatives to decide whether its common, valuable, precious, rare or shiny ;P resources.. that is ;P
-
If you want to get that far into it then value is determined by supply, so something is precious only because it is rare.
Rather getting bogged down in the specific meaning to be conveyed is probably not worth your time. Just go for what sounds best.
-
Bear in mind that some of these are used as construction materials, and some are used as crafting materials.
Why not further emphasize this distinction with crafting components and building materials. Both "components" and "materials" can have the common/uncommon prefix. Would help distinguish the two types.
-
I like resources.
I don't hate commodities really, but resources sounds nicer.
-
It's true, we could break "Building Materials" out into their own category -- that would make a lot of sense.
Then have common and uncommon resources... or even ingredients.
EDIT: Okay, I added a new category there for it, and that's my new vote for myself, personally. Building Materials, Common Ingredients, and Uncommon Ingredients.
By the by, Common/Uncommon/Rare has those CCG/TCG connotations, and Common/Uncommon is more accurate than Common/Rare in that sort of context. That's what made me think of it.
-
But uncommon is a different word for rare ;) :D :D :o
No, you get three uncommon cards in a booster but only one rare!

No, you get three uncommon cards in a booster but only one rare!
That's exactly what I was thinking!
-
Hybrid vote:
Building materials
Common ingredients
Arcane ingredients
:D
-
Love that! Added it as a new option, and transferred my vote there. :)
I think that's probably the thing I'll go with, unless anyone feels strongly against.
-
I strongly support the Building/Common/Arcane option.
-
Personally, I don't like the word ingredients. Can we use materials or resources?
That said, I like the building/common/arcane option.
-
I really prefer ingredients, because that's what they are: ingredients to make a new spell. Materials or resources are so broad that they don't really add anything, if we're splitting it out into three categories like this.
And actually, we still are using the word materials: ALL of the above are materials, but the sub-categories are the three things noted.
-
Okay, in for the next version:
* Commodities are now known as Common Ingredients. Rare Commodities are now known as Arcane Ingredients.
** A few of the commodities are only used for guardian powers. These are now in their own category, combined with consciousness shards (also used for guardian powers), called Building Materials.
