Right, given that I don't think that the problems associated with having jump and interact mapped to the same button can be resolved completely -- getting stuck in areas that you can't jump without entering etc --  I have changed the controls so that interact is mapped to LB instead.

It plays perfectly fine with these controls, however some may say that having interact on a bumper button might seem unorthodox, and they'd be right, but really it's the combat that is the most important in this game and the absolute best place for the ability buttons is on X,Y, and B. You could move the interact button to Y and the special ability button to LB, which would make the controls more orthodox, but at the expense of optimum combat controls.

That's about it for my thinking on what would be the best controls for this game. I've attached my binding presets for 360 pad, PS2 Dualshock and WASD.

Just tested a couple more 360 pads (using the same wireless receiver) and both worked fine. These pads were proper 360 pads (not PC bought ones) from way back in the first days of xbox 360. Both mapped correctly.

All right, coming up next release:

* Integrated Pepisolo's keybinding sets for the following:
** Xbox 360 Controller Defaults
** PS2 Dualshock 2 Defaults
** WASD Keyboard Controls
** Huuuuge thanks to Pepisolo for creating these and testing them extensively on multiple controllers!

* Fixed an issue where if you were closing out of a menu using a keybind that also mapped to a spell, it would fire the spell.

* The default gamepad controls are now Pepisolo's "Xbox 360 Controller Defaults" set, since more players have 360 controllers than any other controller.

* The interface for selecting default input bindings has been moved onto its own window so that it can be more clearly expressed just what it does.  There is now a much clearer button on the input bindings window that lets you set the defaults the way that you want.

Thanks so incredibly much for all your diligent work on this, Pepisolo -- that's going to make a big difference to a lot of people!

No problems. I wish I could have tested more PS2 configs, though. Also I hope I made the right call on the placement of the Interact button. For optimum combat controls I think I did -- these are the controls I use, anyway. Thanks!

I tested with your controls, and I thought that they all made sense to me, too.  I found A+Y to be kind of awkward, but that was my main gripe.

I'm happy with them. It was between this and the same albeit with interact and special switched around. Those are the only two setups I would contemplate using -- aside from the interact also on A but that comes with problems of its own. So yeah, should be cool. Just anxious to make the best impression on new users that can possibly be made.

My XBOX controller setup is totally different.  I actually like LB/RB being primary/secondary.  Maybe I'm just weird though.

If you want to give me your inputbindings with your preferred XBOX controls, I'd be plenty happy to include those as an alternative config that people can choose from.  I tend to use unusual settings on even things like PS3 games when they let me.

Just a small thing. I've updated my 360 and PS2 controls to include the new order NPC to move button. Seems to work best on Y (triangle) as that is the button closest to cancel. Not sure if you want to update for this small change. It's the controls I'm using now, anyway.

Now that I have my PS3 pad working, I'll give a little input here.
The defaults I found okay, but I had to change a few things around. I use an xinput wrapper for my DS3, so the PC reads it as an XBOX pad.

First thing, I changed all movement over from the analog stick to the d-pad. The reason I have a DS3 is because it has the best d-pad of any controller I've ever used, compared to xbox d-pads, which are an abomination. I can understand why the analog is default in that case, but when you have a good d-pad, I find it works better since Valley takes digital input, rather than analog.

As a guy who loves his Megaman, Caslevania, and Metroid games, I should be able to press both Jump and Shoot at the same time with my right thumb. So jump gets moved down to the Cross button and interact to Circle. Primary attack gets moved to Square and Ammo attack gets moved to triangle, since it's the least accessible attack button. Secondary gets moved to L1 and Special to R1. Menu gets moved to the start button, since my fingers aren't on the sticks and it feels more natural for a guy who grew up with genesis/nintendo games. Also, Circle gets double duty as cancel and interact, since you use the confirm key instead of interact in menus, and don't use cancel while sidescrolling.

For reference, Cross = A, Circle = B, Square = X, Triangle = Y, L1 = LB, R1 = RB.

Absolutely agree. The only reason the xbox 360 defaults are to the stick is for the reason you mention -- because the xbox dpad is universally despised.

That's weird, jump is supposed to default to Cross...

Start is also supposed to be the menu button. Not sure why your defaults don't seem to be working correctly. Interesting thoughts on the other buttons, though. Interact on cancel seems interesting. I'll try some of your settings some time.

Just a quick note, I was playing with a friend online and they noticed a pretty major flaw in the default Xbox360 control setup (at least it mapped OK, though). Open Strategic Advisor view is still mapped to left-analogue-click in! This is actually pretty terrible as it is incredibly easy to accidentally press this click button while moving the character around. This mapping should either be removed or moved over to right-stick click in. Because I use my PS2 pad as my main controller I must have missed this flaw... oops.
