well, as long as you guys keep adding content to either one of the games, you won't hear me complaining :D
As soon as I get AVWW, I'll be way to busy playing it for me to worry about AI war expansions anyways. From what I've seen I believe AVWW is another game that will keep me entertained endlessly, with or without added content

Thank you for the confidence :)  And I'll try to make sure the AIW expansion tempts you back spaceward ;)

AVWW's been fun for the beta testers, but there's also something to be said for having your first experience be with a "finished" (at least, "1.0") product.  In a beta you tend to see a lot of the internals of the hotdog factory, and sometimes get caught in the machinery ;)

that sounds... painful lol. And well, I get to play "finished" games all the time lol, it's not often one gets the opportunity to be one of the beta testers. Which is why I also really regret discovering AI war so late (after 4.0). Sure games in Beta might be changing all the time, and most likely have countless bugs, but that's only to be expected. Dunno, I guess it just feels good to say "I was in Beta". Ah well, maybe in a few years Chris gets another idea for a game, who knows :P

Anyhow, looking forward to the release. Planning to buy it the very second AVWW releases on steam.

And time.

Is the ability to get rid of ice pirates still planned for 1.0?

hehehe, yeah, that's why I've been rather conservative in my involvement of the BETA.  I'm more interested in 1.0 and onwards, but have been playing AVWW in my off-time and the journey has been one of the most interesting I've had with gaming.  Plus, I think I'm the only one who corrupted a world x_x...lol.

Whereas on the other hand I overplayed Tidalis BETA and didn't play as much of the 1.0 product haha.

Bah, never have enough time to do everything that you want.

I was just wondering... what is the current estimate for 1.0?

I don't have a super-firm date yet, but we're looking for 1.0 sometime the week of the 26th.  So, basically in about 2 weeks. :)

The game will not be "done" in the grand sense then any more than AI War is "done" now, three years after its 1.0 release -- we fully intend to keep evolving this game as long as there is enough player interest to support it.  But the core of the game itself is getting pretty darn rock solid, we're working on a glut of new content as we speak, and players can easily get dozens of hours of playtime out of the existing version as it sits.  Once we have the last of the new content and bugfixes/balance stuff worked out, that's what sounds like a solid 1.0 to me.

And then the day after 1.0, we just keep right on adding to the game the way we did the day before. ;)

I only asked because I was trying to get my friend to play with me (I bought him a copy) and he wants to wait for release... then I read this thread.

Not a worry at all; I just figured I'd give you a complete answer rather than just "about two weeks." :)

I appreciate your time and dedication on these forums.  I feel bad that I bought my 2 copies when you were selling them half off.

Make up for it by buying 20 more copies and using them to wallpaper your room!

Actually that doesn't work since there are no physical copies. Bummer. As much as I love living in the era of digital distribution, something has been lost from the era of big boxes containing fat manuals and neat trinkets related to the game. But my age is showing, so I'll wander off and drink my Metamucil now. :P

Cheers guys, and thanks for your support in return. :)

I, too, remember the days of the big fat manual, Bob -- oh for the days of the Atari!  Keith was just remarking to me the other day about a game he used to play that would say "look at manual page 51 for the dialogue that goes with this encounter" because of that whole 640k RAM limit thing.  I never encountered that specific phenomena to my recollection, but I remember when copy protection was often something like "what is the first word under the section called 'Barbarian Encounters' on page 72 of the manual?"  The theory being that nobody would bother to photocopy that whole big manual, or perhaps that they wouldn't want to damage it to do so.

Ah, those were the days... ;)

Will there be a boxed version of AVWW like AI War and Tidalis or did the low sales of Tidalis sever your relationship to HeadUp?
