Ok, so I made a Technozoo..now what...
« on: March 19, 2012, 09:53:12 am »
Paid version updated.

I used a guardian scroll to make a Technozoothing I have  a 3 Technozoologist, so what does it do, how can I use it?
I have other buildings and tier 3 dudes to use them but I can't enter any or do anything with them.
I realize it's beta and expect things to be added or removed but I can't seem to find anything on this.

Great game though, never thought I'd like a shmup sidescroller/platformer I'm more of a Minecraft/ Terraria kind of guy (I guess they both could be though)
but I did buy AI War: Fleet Command  awhile ago, still haven't come to grips with that game but that's ok I enjoy what I'm able to do with it.

Thanks

Cheers!  And welcome to the forums.

The Center for Technozoologicalism is what makes all your Technozoologists in the settlement have a skill level of 3.  Now when you find any guardian power scrolls out in the world, if they require skill level 3 of that profession, you'll be able to use them.  Without the Center on-hand, you're unable to use those scrolls until you both build the Center and have a Technozoologist to work there.

What is a technozoololigst anyway?

Is that something that exists in the real world?

Of course not!  We made them up.  You can read a bit about them through the bits and pieces of descriptions for the buildings, mainly, at the moment.  But then also through more lore bits that we'll be weaving in through the mysteries. :)

Is there any continent 1 power that uses technozoology?

Ok good enough, a prerequisite, I'll play on and see where it goes.

A question I should have asked above. I like to make different spell sets in the ability bar (mouse 1,2,3) and rotate between them as needed  (default r key). I can use the same spell in different bars by loading it several times from the crafting workbench. Is there any way to make multiple slots for platforms and crates so I don't have to drag them each time I change a spell set?

Thanks to all Indie companies out there. I bought a big  honkin' SOTA computer in prep for Diablo 3 but quite frankly most of the "big name" games today aren't all that good (ok Borderlands was cool). If it wasn't for games like A.I. War, AVWW, Torchlight, Minecraft, Terraria, Dwarf Fortress, Din's Curse, Bastion and others PC gaming would be like a poor relative that gets all the console hand-me-downs. I've been playing PC games for 22 years (yeah I'm ancient, 57) and the Indie movement reminds me a lot of those early days.

Unfortunately, at the moment there's not a way to set the things like crates to multiple ability bars, but that's a good idea for a future enhancement.

Since your ability bar is just one row from your inventory, I don't see how that would be feasible without doing really something strange to the way the game handles inventory :)

It shouldn't be hard to have your inventory let you split things into multiple stacks, though, should it?  Say instead of having one slot of 1000 platforms you have two slots of 500, then you can put each stack in a different bar.

Personally, I find having to have multiple copies of spells in order to support switching through active weapon sets a little bit clunky in general, but maybe that's just me!

Yes, and I thought you could already do that, which is why I assumed the thing being discussed here was linking two slots to the same stack :)

I believe the game automatically combines all stacks on load.  Having multiple stacks of items that can be combined makes it so that they all show the same count despite actually having different numbers of that item in the stack; very buggy.  We'd need to have either true splitting (which is then a pain in the rear for normal gameplay because when you get new platforms where do they go?  Which existing stack or to a new one?) or -- much better -- we have some sort of way of linking "show wood platforms here" multiple times, and your actual store of wood platforms just remains in one slot.  But that's not likely to happen anytime soon, as you implied.

The game seemed perfectly happy to show different stacks of the same item whenever previously different items were combined in patches (cf. wood platforms). They all showed the same number of items and were happy to stay separate until I dragged them together. Not sure if there's some way you can replicate that behavior easily though, since of course I have no idea what was actually going on under the hood there.

Well, just taking out the combining logic would work.

But the problem was, the number in each stack was actually different.  So it might say "200 left" but then you use the last one from that stack and they all disappear.  And there was no way to split stacks.  Etc.  It was not a clean experience before.
