I thought that folks might enjoy seeing some more of the concept art sketches for various of the 120 new enemies that are coming for A Valley Without Wind 2.  These concept sketches are done at Heavy Cat for purposes of informing the final sprites that will be created of each monster; these aren't the actual sprites themselves, in other words.

"Meet Some Of The Monsters Of..."

I'd actually rather not, especially in any dark alleys ;)

These are cool! I especially like the bone mass, hungry ghost, steam flyer, and most importantly of all the overlord who looks very awesome.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but Slender (even as just a name, the look isn't bad) feels, I don't know - like bandwagoning on an internet meme. It's not a huge deal I guess, but I'm not really a fan of that as just a name. Some people might even like it because of the reference to that meme. Demonaica is a little silly too as a name - the look is awesome though.

Edit: Demonaica while silly I guess isn't too far out of the theme of a tribute to old platformers, which had some downright cheesy villain names.

Lolslenderman.

Also, Lilith reminds me of Misery. The Cave Story Character, not the forum resident.

The mechanical stuff is awesome and some of the monsters are disgusting (In the best possible way)
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Hehe, Landshark.
The Auroch Warrior looks pretty cool. And the Owl does not look at all impressed by your concept art shenanigans. :P

Isn't Slenderman supposed to wear a Suit.
I hope the ghost monsters are invisible unless you have  some kind of Talisman to see them or PKE meter that bleeps the closer it is to you if you don't.

Very cool monster concepts :D Now the monsters just have to be interesting too kill and not just to look at :P

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Arcen and/or Heavy Cat have drawn some quite heavy inspiration from monsters of two other upcoming titles...

Interstellar Marines

Bioshock infinite

I'm not familiar with either of those games, and I came up with the various concepts.  Whether the artists took some inspiration, I can't say.

Regarding Slender, he's as much inspired by the Merry Wives of Windsor as he is by the Slenderman.  I did not know Slenderman was an internet meme, but he's scary as heck and I thought a different version of him might be interesting, not knowing much about the original.  Why the Merry Wives?  I'm not sure -- my sister was in a regional production of that last year, and the guy playing Monsieur Slender was quite good and funny (they all were); he was nothing like Slenderman, but "Monsieur Slender" was stuck in my head recently when I was coming up with henchman names.

I always thought the Landshark joke started with Saturday Night Live, but maybe they got it somewhere else :)

Personally, I went with landshark because I wanted sharks in the game but I needed a land monster and not a water one.

This.

Also it would be great if the landsharks "hid" with just a fin sticking up in the desert areas.

As for the slender thing, I can live - it's not a deal breaker, just something that stuck out to me.
