Puzzle room tips?
« on: April 11, 2012, 12:07:56 am »
I just found my second puzzle room.  The first wasn't too bad, but I'm not having a lot of luck with this second one.

The problem is mainly a 4x26 grid of balls.  The only spell I found that can flip the inner rows of balls is Energy Pulse, which flips everything in its path.   But when the two inner balls aren't the same color, it's a nightmare to try to flip just one of them without the other and without wrecking all the ones you've already got.  The energy pulse is wide and even just being slightly off on the aim, and it will catch the adjacent balls as well, messing up all your work.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks or know any better spells to use?

I like to stand on top of the stack to either the far left or right side. Then, I shoot Energy Pulse downward and at a slight angle inwards.  It is only important to get the inside orbs. Slowly arc your shot from the downward to the horizontal. This should allow you to "slice" your way across. Once all the center orbs match, you can clean up the outside orbs with fireball.

I would be interested to hear what the "oficial" method was as design, but this has worked for me so far.

I find Miasma Whip really useful here, aimed correctly and it can make flipping the inside orbs a lot easier, sometimes you need to position yourself on a platform so take that into account as well.

Lightning Ball is also useful for reaching that inner row. It doesn't always work, but most of the times it does. If that fails, there's always good old Fire Touch.

I only ever use Miasma Whip and flare whilst doing puzzle rooms, it makes them very easy.
