I haven't been following the updates in a while... is multiplayer in at all yet?

Thanks.

Oh yes, very much so.  There are some MP-specific bugs to iron out still, and we don't have a server listing in yet.  But Toll runs a popular server (see the "post when you host" topic below) that a lot of folks come and go on.

Speaking of multiplayer, what is the default port again? I changed it because I have a certain port with port forwarding set up but I don't know what the default is anymore.

I dont know offhand, but you should be able to find it in-game.

Does it still require the opt-in, or was that requirement removed when you went from alpha to beta?

Yup, no more required opt-in now that it's in beta as well.

Speaking of MP is dedicated server part of the plan after v1.0?

Dedicated server in what sense? That's more or less how it already works. It runs the game in "server mode," which is pretty much headless but for a bit of admin view, and has no local player. If you want to host and play on the same computer, you need a server copy running and a client copy running. To my definition, that's dedicated already!

If you mean a headless server with no graphics components at all (and, more to the point, linux-friendly) : that's a would-be-nice, but our engine doesn't really work that way despite having a few command-line options that are supposed to head in that direction.

But assuming that WINE is there, it should be something that could be managed in that sort of environment eventually.  Command line interaction is iffy, but being able to provide client-side admin tools via chat log "command line" statements could be a lot easier and just as powerful.  Sort of like the command/cheat parser we have for AI War.

Yes that is what I meant, server with no graphics component, I wouldn't want to host on the box(win/linux) which I am normally playing games as I would like to leave the server on for public access. Something like dedicated server available for terraria.  Used to host this on a separate pc and leave the access public so that anyone can join anytime. Save the gfx crunching as well if you are running 24/7?

You can sort of already do this, assuming that you don't need to do any administrative messing around with the world.  And assuming you're running WINE and have graphics drivers installed (the graphics just won't draw).  That's really the only thing we can do, since the game can't run outside of the unity engine and the unity engine can't run without graphics.
