Arguably if you did all that, though, it was a good value -- I don't want this to turn into a thread dumping on other developers' games. ;)

Terraria was good value, we got several nice patches and some good fun out of it.

At the very least it gives me some solid comparison points regarding goal, replay, and time sink value when discussing the game with my friends.

I've put more than 200 hours into AI War, almost as much as I've put into CounterStrike: Source (which I owned earlier), over 300 hours into Mount and Blade: Warband (and another 300+ hours into Mount and Blade), nearly 300 hours into Oblivion.

In contrast I spent less than 30 hours for the entire Half-Life 2 series (finished all of them).

I tend to play strategy games over other genres but sandbox-style play really increases my gameplay.

Well like £6 for 179 hours? When I have played Skyrim on Steam for like 137 hours and that cost me £30? So yeah, it was value.

When I can redeem on Steam though, let's see if AVWW has what it takes to pass either of them. ;)

Personally, I tried out terraria and was never a big fan of it. The minecraft-esque features of it really killed the game for me (mining and building were building boring - the inventory system was painful) While I think AVVW takes the aspects of terraria that would have been fun (if I had gotten into Terraria) and improves on them.

AVWW is in active development, Terraria is no longer being updated.
At the risk of being off-topic: did something happen? It was being updated for quite awhile after the release. Did developers get hit by a bus?

Yep, thank you it turned out to be easily googlable. Just read the article and came here to delete my message, but you already answered.
I'd like to take a moment to thank you again for keeping doing what you are doing (in terms of involvement with the community). Every ones in a while someone (with the best of intentions) posts something that you feel you can't address, you feel bad about it despite the fact that on the logical side you know that you can't please everyone and tastes differ and all that, but despite feeling bad you keep doing what you are doing. Every time. Thank you for staying with us, this is really cool.

Cheers, zespri -- I think it's also just partly my nature.  I like making big games, and I'm always the guy that seems to be turning out the lights when other people go home, so to speak.  Having a community who is collectively willing to hang around as long as I am (while individual members transition in and out, inevitably) is the cool part for me. :)

No, but after they announced stopping development they got hit by an internet.

I imagine they have sufficient consolation, though :)

Echoing this, I got to say, I'm amazed at how many updates have been done (completely free), its mind boggling to think of all that free content for a 20-ish dollar game still years after its initial release. Including mechanic changes in addition to bug fixes/rebalancing. Was looking back at some of the previous AI wars updates and its impressive to say the least.
