I'm at a point where I seem to be just running around in circles. I need cherries, iron, and a few other materials to upgrade my spells to tier 2, but I cannot seem to find any of the ingredients needed anywhere. I cannot count the number of areas I've gone through just to come out the other side empty-handed (or with ingredients/materials I don't currently need). I have no tier 2 spells and I feel like I'm spending hours accomplishing nothing. I've noticed with the ingredients, it lists the most-likely places to find specific ones, but after delving into every one of the areas on my map listed as the most-common area to find that ingredient, I still come out with nothing. I've memorized these places because that stupid mouse click sound the devs decided to use drives me insane which in-turn, ends up being the reason I've only looked at that encyclopedia twice out of the 15+ hours I've played this game. I hate that sound and I wish I could remove it. (/rant)

Also, I found a secret mission that rewarded Iron, but it was a Fix the Anachronism mission and I just don't understand those. I've gone through and was (by pure luck) able to kill maybe two of the enemies, but after running around the room hundreds of times, I don't see any difference between the rest of the floating enemies roaming around the room which involves me shooting random enemies and ultimately dying and giving up.

Lastly, I tried this Battlefield mission but it is impossible without tier 2 spells. I tried using the flares to stop my allies from advancing, but the enemy pushes back to my base within seconds. I've been able to dodge enough enemies to take out two towers, but the enemies end up pushing me back and my allies - regardless of the flare disappearing - will never move past the original point I set for them. Even when I die and come back, they will run to that one spot and hit an invisible barrier. They won't attack, they won't advance, they just die and we lose.

On to the bug report:
Now, I'm not entirely sure if this bug is related to me not being able to complete this Battlefield mission or not, but when I die in another mission in a completely different area, I respawn with my new character at the battlefield. Even if the battlefield mission expires and I die in a secret mission elsewhere, it sends me back to the Battlefield mission.

Hi Stg, welcome to the forums!

For iron, it is a common resource you can find in underground caverns. It should show up as a bright green dot on the map, and you can harvest it with fire touch, death touch, miasma whip, leafy whip, ice burst, ice cross, and i forget what else. You should be able to easily build up a stockpile after a few rooms.

When it comes to cherries, there are cherry trees you need to knock down in the same way, in the locations listed in the encyclopedia.

The same should go for anything like rubies, citrine, opal, jade, etc. Those ones will require finding the equivalent of a stash room underground, and are mine-able the same way as iron is.

Anachronism missions can be pretty difficult if you haven't played the game a bunch. You need to kill the enemies that don't belong to the area you are in. For example, if you are in an ice age area, skelebots are native to it, but fire espers or rhinos aren't. You would need to kill the fire espers/rhinos, without hitting the skelebots, as they reflect the damage back onto you.

Battlegrounds can be pretty tough, especially on the harder difficulty settings. I haven't run into the flare problem, but then, I rarely use them.

As for the bug report, it looks like it's listed as being fixed in the patch notes for the next upcoming beta patch.

Thanks for the quick reply, but my problem with the ingredients isn't that I don't know how to harvest them, it's that I cannot find them. I've searched through every one of the Abandoned Towns in my entire Large World and there were no cherry trees. I delved into five different Ice Age Plains and still, no cherry trees. I'm tired of spending hours running around looking for something that won't spawn for me.

I've also jumped down 10+ underground systems and have yet to find one Iron ore. I've found plenty of Jade, Citrine, Granite, etc. but no Iron. I kinda wish there were specific areas where RNG were not used - it would give the game a feel like the devs actually took time to craft out unique areas instead of generating a few identical ones and then throwing them to the RNG wind.

Just to clarify, I am a completionist whore. Meaning, I leave no portion of my map unsearched, nor can I resist leaving a room without grabbing those green and orange dots.

Some sort of fallback for when the RNG "hates you" may be in order.
Also, I have suggested before to allow hand-crafted rooms spawn for surface and cave areas, in addition to indoors. (Of course, rooms for those would need to be designed to "feel" "cave-ish" or "outdoor-ish" rather than "building-ish" like most of the pre-made rooms do) (EDIT: Is this on Mantis yet? It needs to be)

I can't remember if it is iron or copper that is a always unlocked ingredient.
If iron does require an unlock, that might explain it.

  • If you're not drunk you're doing it wrong.

Both, for ingots and material, are unlocks.  So are plums.  Cherries I forget, but abandoned towns and grasslands with groves are usually where I go cherry shopping... though oddly I've found a ton in thawing ice age.
... and then we'll have cake.

Ah, I assumed since you ran into a secret mission offering iron that you had it unlocked; is that not the case? I stumble across it in pretty much every underground cavern I go into once its unlocked.

My absolute hatred for the mouse click noise has prevented me from delving into the encyclopedia as much as the game needs me to. I really hope I can find a way to disable that noise so I can progress in the game. I know it sounds really ridiculous, but everyone has something that irritates them to the point of rage and that noise is one of mine.

Does the encyclopedia include pictures of cherry trees/iron veins etc.? If not that would be a good Mantis suggestion.

Were you not able to find the sound file responsible in the game folders?

As for mouse clicks, you can find the sound in the runtime folder and replace it. Don't think you can remove it without the game getting iffy.

As for resources, both cherries and iron are unlockables that you need to unlock before they start showing up. That should be in the BHE as well under materials.

Oh yes. This issue is already noted in the bug tracker, but not marked as fixed yet.

I would love it if you could tell me the directory path to the sound folder where that mouse click file is located. I was told by another person in another topic that the ButtonClick.ogg file is located in my RunTimeData/Sounds folder, but the only sounds in that folder are HowlingWind, LightRain, LightWind, and WindyRain.ogg files.

I'm running the Steam version if that matters.

Strange, it is in my RuntimeData/Sounds folder, called ButtonClick.ogg (Hmm, I may try replacing it with the AI war button click sound, it is slightly quiter and noticable)
