There are at least two references to Dwarf Fortress already...

I'm foreseeing an engraving in the caverns of skelebots and cheese...

There is a picture of a human.  The human is pulling a lever.  There is another picture, of an Overlord.  The Overlord is laughing.

BTW, can you traverse icy or lava lands on the overworld without the appropriate suit or do they act as obstacles for characters without that gear?

Please tell me that Boatmurdered is a possible randomly generated settlement name, or that it's manually inserted into the list like Murdoch is in AI War.  Heh.

There's nothing that prevents you from going there, but you'll be dead in about 10 seconds or so most of the time.  If you have enough healing items to heal yourself every 10 seconds, you can stay in the ice age in shorts if you want. ;)

I think it is possible for it to randomly generate that name for some regions, actually, but I can't remember.  It is definitely possible to get that as a planet name in AI War, interestingly. :)

But there's some boatmurdered... references, for sure.  Will you cringe when it tells you to pull the lever?  You better. ;)

what, so you get pulled into the side-view mode if you enter these areas without the suit? or you can take damage while moving around on the overworld ?

Neither, I meant if you voluntarily go into those areas you'll die.  You never take damage on the world map.  There are three kinds of world map region tiles that automatically pull you into the side view when you step on them, though: ocean, lava flats, and the deep.  Everything else you can walk across with impunity, and it's only if you go into them that you have to worry about temperature.  And even with the three I mentioned, if you just take one step into their type of tile, you just come into the edge in side view and can walk right back out. If you then take another step further into the ocean/lava/deep, then you're really getting lost out in the middle of some stuff, and you'd better have a suit! ;)

Yep!  If you've got the healing for it!

Not yet -- but there will be.  I also intend to have players able to transmogrify themselves into a fish to swim around, too; like they can already turn themselves into a bat.  But that won't be for a while, I expect.

:)

Just curious if there might be a suit, like the cold or heat suit used for places like the ocean? You also mention transmogrifying into a fish, but would it be possible to change back? Or are these changes permanent?  :)

Looking forward to seeing the beta soon!  :)

Take care and thank you for listening,
-Teal

Yep, there are plans to have a diving suit for sure, though it won't be available until really late in the game.

And for the fish, yes you can turn back -- same as with the existing bat.  You can go in and out of being a bat, as long as you have enough scrolls for it!
