enemy glossary
« on: August 30, 2012, 07:04:51 pm »
I think there should be an enemy glossary of some kind. it would have a name, picture, and a little description about each enemy when you click on it.

I'm kinda surprised that I wasn't able to find one on the wiki or in the game. especially because there are some enemies that are hard to find or identify. like what the hell is that gigantic red cloud thing that sometimes appears as a boss.

I imagine with the upcoming graphics change such a project would have to wait, but you're right, an enemy glossary would be nice in any form.

The Ghostly Heart is a boss that gets spawned if the room requires a boss but is too small for any other boss to spawn there. I've seen one once and it made for a startling encounter as it started to move. I wasn't sure if it did damage on contact or not so I kited it furiously as I ran for the other door. I pretty sure I killed it but it's been a while. At any rate I thought it was pretty cool and I'd fight it again if given a good opportunity.

You can identify the enemy and find out the info you need on it by hovering over the enemy while the game is paused.

As for why there aren't wiki pages about them, that comes down to the fact that we just don't have time for that. If you or any members would be interested in doing that, let me know and I'll get you wiki editing access.

That said, adding any pics for that kind of thing would be premature right now, as all the graphics are going to be changing.

Aye, I've had the idea of doing this very thing myself, but the changing art is the reason why I havent.  Particularly since some aspects like enemy/boss size might also change, which might entirely change how the monster in question works.

Be pretty silly to write all that up, get it finished, and then BAM art update done and suddenly none of the pages make sense anymore.

Once that's done though, I could probably do most of this, if there seems to be enough interest/reason to do so.   I do think having a "bestiary" section or whatever on the wiki makes sense.

I completely agree that it's a good idea. And, I thank you in advance if you do indeed do this after the art change. :)

There's a high-voted Mantis post about that somewhere iirc..?

BESTIARY PROGRESS
I'm working on collecting and entering data for the various monsters in the game to the bestiary I made on the Wiki.

Here is the current List of Monsters which I've put onto the Wiki.
Here is the Spreadsheet of Data which I am extracting from the monsters in-game. Feel free to add to it! (Adept difficulty : if not at level 1, please note which level the statistics gathered are from)

If you like, I'll make a bestiary template for the wiki, and populate it with a couple of guys.

EDIT: I ended up making a template. I think it looks pretty good!

Check out my entry for the Lightning Esper, let me know how it looks. Obviously it needs actual data. I probably don't need a trivia field either, but I put it there because I needed more stuff to populate the page.

Let me know if there are some monster statistics I forgot about.
As far as template goes, that doesn't at all look bad!

I added actual data for a few monsters. I'd like some feedback on how this should be done before I add any more. Since monster statistics scale with continent tier and difficulty, exact values for HP and damage aren't very useful. I've been adding in broad descriptions instead, such as "Very Low / Low / Medium / High / Very High / Extreme".

How does this sound?

I guess we could just put in the stock values? Or would that be too much work? All of this would be somewhat easier if the wiki was open, but that also, naturally, opens to spammers and vandals. :/

By stock values, what do you mean? The base value at level 1 on adept difficulty? Because I started to gather that data, I did it for all the base monsters that are unlocked by default in 4 or 5 terrain types. Then I realized how useless those numbers are to anyone, since how long would anyone be playing on tier 1, continent 1, adept difficulty? Also, boss statistics vary slightly, so there isn't even a "base" that I am able to discern.

You can get wiki access. Send a PM to tigersfan, he should be able to set you up an account if you like.

Stock values would indeed be lvl 1 adept difficulty, OR whichever level they unlock on, but even this is floaty depending on play style.

So I guess very high to very low is acceptable.

I'm aware of this. Unfortunately, I'm quite a bit too busy these days to be able to contribute much at all.

For the 'should stock mean Tier 1 adept difficulty?' question, you could perhaps add a note to the template mentioning that.
