Double-tapping shortcuts
« on: February 22, 2012, 02:06:06 pm »
I know you aren't done with the next version yet, but I saw the following in the working patch notes:

Quote
"The miniature spell can no longer be triggered by double-tapping the down key. That's what ducking is now for, and having that trigger miniature accidentally is annoying. Miniature is still a hugely useful spell, but it's one that you're more likely to switch between outside of combat, so it doesn't need to be hot-bound."

This made me wonder if that could be made an option, instead of being removed entirely.

What about having double-tap in any direction being linked to a spell by the user instead of automatic defaults. Especially in the future when I could have many different types of dash or miniaturize. I know it defaults to the "leftmost" ability in your bar which is a type of customization, but not the most intuitive one. Maybe just 3 more equip slots of double-tap-up/down/forward for the players to decide on their own.

I don't plan for that anytime soon, but it could potentially be an option sometime post-1.0.  It's a very specialized sort of request and right now there isn't time.

I understand. I wrote the "configurable double tap in any direction" as a mantis idea. I shouldn't have put that in this post.

I was wondering if you could make the disabling of double-tap down for miniaturize an option instead of being flat-out removed.
Nevermind, this would be needless feature creep. Keep on working towards 1.0, it looks great!

That wouldn't be the easiest thing to do -- it's not super difficult, but it would take about 20 minutes; that's not a whole lot of time, true, but we've got too many features to fit into the time we have allotted already, meaning that even 5 minute features have to be weighed against other 5 minute features.  Is this something you actually really need particularly much?  The ability to switch back and forth quickly between miniature state seems not that useful compared to the annoyance of accidentally using it (and wasting mana) while you are using the new dodging and ducking mechanics.

I've set the doubletap timer to 1 so I won't trigger any doubletap spells. I've simply assigned storm dash to the slot 0 and bound that to shift.

I was going to say, I'm sure there's another keybind for miniturisation you could set up which would be nearly as convenient as double tapping down.

Actually, I already find I do not have enough buttons. I move with ESDF, and use all 5 mouse buttons, along with WRTGV for skills. I still find myself having to swap out skills a lot on the skill bar. There are just so many great situation spells I like having immediate access to.

If we could bind the second and third row to keys as well, I'd love it! But, that would definitely be a post-1.0.

I do feel sometimes find that I don't bother using shields as often as I could be using them because they're very situational and take up a slot in the bar, which makes it often necessary to open up the inventory or switch bars to use them because of how impractical it is to have them all in one bar.

It would be nice to eventually have some kind of faster way to select a shield.

It would be really convenient if mousing over an enemy then using some kind of shortcut for shield would automatically pick the shield that helps against the type of damage that enemy does.
On the other hand that might be a bit too automated, not sure.

As far as I'm aware shields are still quite effective against damage not of their source. I used to use them all the time to tank one or two projectiles I was falling into, a melee as I run past some enemies, or to just push through a wall of projectiles...
