Cheer up buddy, it's just the end of the world.
« on: July 07, 2012, 01:45:08 pm »
Is there any other way to cheer up survivors besides finding gifts? I'm trying to lower the overlord's level and the moods of the survivors is lower than Monday morning at the world's worst job. At this point I'm scrounging robot junkyards looking for stuff to bring my last two adventurers up to 20% just to fire them off like anti-overlord missiles so I can take him down. God help me if they fail their 75% chance.

Hmmm, should I invest in new survivors instead?

Mood gifts are the only way, unless they are lower-skilled than average and you send them on a mission and they win (that makes them happy).

You may be running into a bug with their moods falling too much in the current version, though.  About to push a new version to address that.

Ah, I see. I had a robot drop his mood enough on a successful overlord run that his survival dropped from 60% to 4% or some other single digit number. Second time dropped it from 60% to 41%. I immediately burned a third level off the overlord, but the robot didn't make it back that time.

I find the inconsistency in the drop a little odd.

Watch for what he complains about -- others not holding up their end of the load with doing enough missions, etc.  But the version that came out earlier today should have helped with no longer counting dead NPCs against you. ;)

In terms of the inconsistency of the drop, it's an exponential scale: as the mood gets lower than the danger rating, your odds get exponentially worse (power of two).  So as you get closer and closer in mood to the danger level of the mission, your survival percentage leaps up and up faster and faster (and the reverse is also true).

Is there a specific kind of tile to find mood gifts? I've found lots of books but not a single mood gift.

Do NPC moods change overtime or just when certain events occur?

Those dead NPCs; causing trouble way back since alpha ;) I remember back when the dead used to eat food. That was "fun".

If I remember correctly, the Illari stones did for a bit as well.

As a side note here, the books I collect, how do I use them? Or are they instantly "used" and available after they are picked up? I can see them in the settlement stockpile, but I can't seem to do anything with them.

If you view the details of an NPC, you can then give them gifts.

Ah, that's how you do it. Now that little dull light at the back of my head remembers reading something to that effect in the big guide. Oh memory, y u no work?
