Beta Update Release Schedule
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:58:35 pm »
I see that you guys have been hugely active in the Trouble Ticket reporting site and it appears that updates may come fairly frequently.

Do you have a particular schedule you plan to be adhering to, say nightly at 8pm, or will it be more "as it comes?"

It's mostly as it comes.  But, typically that's going to be between 10pm-12pm EST, in the main.  I'm just getting ready to push out the next one now: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AVWW_-_Beta_Series_1_Release_Notes#Beta_0.502

Our pleasure!  And it was actually something of a slow day compared to what it could have been, just because we spent a lot of time talking about things with folks rather than actually changing things.  But that ratio will hopefully change soon, as we need to really hit the turbo for a while with cranking out the content and such.

Which makes me say "Thanks!" twice: one for creating such a unique and excellent game (if I haven't said it yet, here it is), and for fixing that bugger region lvls thing, just made a new world to test this and it looks beautiful, might as well stick in this new place.

(though I may go back to the older one just to beat that Overlord...)

Arcen time is the opposite of Valve time. When Valve says 'when it's done' they mean 'in eight years'. When Arcen says 'when it's done' they mean 'we released it an hour ago'.

Updates are on Arcen Time, actual release dates tend to be more Valve Time.  The original public alpha for AVWW was scheduled for what, March? ;)

But deadlines do serve an important purpose for us: in the process of jumping over one, our foot catches on it like a hurdle, beginning the process of thump-tumble-tumble-roll-stop ;)

Hahahaha, yeah.

I think Tidalis was something like 4 months late, The Zenith Remnant was one month late, Children of Neinzul was... maybe one month late.  Light of the Spire grew a ton and was two months late.  AI War 1.0 and 2.0 were right on time, but nothing has been since then.  Of course, every time the games have come out with a ton more polish, features, content, etc, than we initially promised, so that's a big part of it.

That's why I've been saying "Q1" for AVWW 1.0.  If we aim for January kind of mentally, then we can hit March or whatever and still be in the window.

Meanwhile, of course, one way or another this game is going to be gargantuanly larger and cooler by January, as always happens.

I suppose it's because I never really pay attention the release dates that I'm never noticing anything being late. I'm always on top of the beta releases, which seem to come fast and furious. Admittedly, AVWW was delayed before this public beta, but since we got warning of that long before it happened, it didn't feel like a problem.

Well, that's the other thing.  We always give noticed a few months in advance when stuff is late, anyway.  So it's not like we reach a deadline and go "oh no!"  It's that we set a deadline way in advance, then as it nears go "this should get more time" and push it back some, etc.
