enchant interface addition
« on: August 09, 2012, 05:45:12 pm »
Request: show currently equipped enchant specs when hovering enchants in inventory. Mockup included, attached to post. Obviously all stats in one window would also be cool. Good idea or unnecessary?

Nitpicking: in the window for the equipped item it says "when equipped (...)". Isn't that redundant?

I'm not sure this would be worth the effort/time of implementing, but I may be off base on this.   This would be very useful if stats/perks were only specific to one enchant slot, but there is enough overlap that it wouldn't be that helpful without looking a your other enchants.

I could be wrong here, and it certainly wouldn't ruin any enjoyment in the game for me.

This actually is something that could be really helpful, depending on the player.

I'm often switching out enchants depending on the situation, and I keep a pretty large number of them on hand, so it'd help to be able to look at both the one I'm pointing at, and the one I have equipped at the same time, particularly as my short-term memory is really awful;  I'll often look at the one I have on already, then I'll go look at the one I might switch to, but by then I've forgotten what the stats for the already-on one is, and.... yeah, this becomes a rather stupid loop sometimes.

Good point. I can think of numerous ways to deal with this but given the way the time schedule for the devs is working out this will probably never see the light of day anyway.

I thought this should be in when I first got into AVWW anyway. I totally agree.
It seems to be a standard in any game where you get and swap around gear. You get a summary of what you have on, compared to what you're considering equipping. Look at Torchlight or Diablo 3 as an example, although those games are completely based on gear anyway. It's around all over the place though, just as a convenience.

What I might prefer though is if the game just gave you a summary of your stat changes instead. Like, for instance...

+4% Jump Height [to 33%]
-2% Detectability [to 0%]

But even just a simple comparison like you showed would be very convenient.

Also, if we could have a total of what equipped enchants do on the enchant equip screen...

A method back at base to automatically scan your enchants for any that are objectively inferior and incinerate them would help cutting through the clutter no end. Or just mark them in red so you know they're strictly junk. By objectively inferior, I'm referring to stuff like +20% A, +10% B getting discarded if you find a +21% A, +10% B, but not if you find a 30% A, +9% B.

Most importantly however, I'd love to have my inventory divided into a section that I have control over, and the new stuff that gets added in. Any attempt to tidy things up and arrange them in a logical order is utterly thwarted by new enchants. Same goes for spells/items and any attempt to use R and T to scroll through action bars.

I'm sure this has been said before but why is there no sort button? Seems almost mandatory for any game with inventory stuff. I kinda like the way Titan Quest does this: one sort button but cycling through a number of convenient sort types, instead of having X buttons that each sort in some specific way.

"Also, if we could have a total of what equipped enchants do on the enchant equip screen..."
And this. For a game with this many numbers and stats there's surprisingly little collated info.
