This one has another batch of changes and fixes, as we're winding down toward finally releasing the official of 1.1.  I don't think it would be wise of us to try for that today, because I want a bit more testing time with it, so probably tomorrow is the day at this point.

If you see any issues with the new version, or play a bunch with it and see no issues, we'd love to hear of either case to help us decide what to do about 1.1.  As always, we appreciate the feedback!

UPDATE: RC3 is now out, with a bit more polish.

UPDATE: RC4 is now out, with another new music track and some buffing to melee spells in general.

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 0.500 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 0.500 or later, you can download that here.

Woa, RC 3 and 4 came out and I didn't get a notification?!
Oh wait, they were edits to the OP, not new posts, that explains it.  :-\

Anyways, can't wait to try this out, though the change to firetouch means I'm going to have to find a new high RoF cheap melee spell (Flamethrower maybe?)

I use flamethrower for everything. Trash mobs? Die in an instant. Trash mobs with fire resistance? Too bad, taste my flames anyway! Miniboss? Flamethrower. High health things like Magma Rhinos and Minibosses w/Fire resistance are the only things that I use other spells for. My Mk. V Flamethrower does 1500 damage per second. My Mk. II on the new continent does 500. I heartily reccommend this particular weapon.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

My Mk. V Flamethrower does 1500 damage per second.

I get about 1,609 or something DPS with fireball 5, but I dunno what your enchants/Build is like :/

Wow. Although I think Flamethrower still has more DPS than fireball, but I'm not able to check right now. I do go for a more well-rounded character with a little more emphasis on health and damage. Right now my enchants are at 4/2/4 but my glass cannon died so now I only do 490 DPS with a Mk. II Flamethrower. Still a lot, though.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

So is the opinion that flamethrower is still OP even after the melee re-balance, or is it really good but not OP?

EDIT: After reviewing the release notes, I noticed that flamethrower was not nerfed at all, so that would be a probably yes. In fact, if the other now buffed melee spells now rival flamethrowers power and usefulness, they will be approaching OP too.

There a particular reason storm fist needed to get the "melee damage spell" treatment?  Using closerange spells with any sort of recoil is generally kind of difficult, never mind THAT much recoil, so that treatment pretty much just doubled the mana cost for using it to get around underwater or assist jumps.

Think you could make the dense carpets of fireball spewing assholes in the evergreen forests a bit less so?  Seems like any time I go into one I'm immediately pelted by a dozen shots and lit on fire.

Admittedly I do have about 350AP on my hero, but I can do 2,600 damage per hit with Ice Touch Mark III. Also death touch is now prohibitively expensive (720 Mana)

Yeah, Ice Burst is *really* powerful.

Though, the rather nasty recharge period after firing it can be an issue.... particularly if you manage to miss.  Using a low-mana character and missing with this one basically means you cant fire anything at all for a moment.  So that balances it at least somewhat.

Still, it kills the heck outta most anything;  they dont need to have weaknesses, and I dont need to have a water-boosting enchant.  Even things like Urban Crawlers go down in just one hit.   ome bosses are quickly dispatched by this too, like the giant jellyfish in the shallows areas (2 hits).   And this isnt with a high-damage character, probably around, say, 140-150%.

Flamethrower, Geyser, and the two whips though, seem much easier to use though, compared to Ice Burst, after this change.

Ah well I use WildAge people and roll out with 3/0/7 since they can only really use low mana spells with their lolfail mana but they get nice attack bonus' too. I normally go for spells I can sustain over long periods of time or fire forever, and fireball is pretty much that. Somehow it also rivals Plasmaball by only having like 20 less DPS less with my build somehow...

Also being able to see in the dark forever is very sexy.
