AVWW Post-Release 1.037-1.038 "Luminance Arc" Released!
« on: May 29, 2012, 09:12:20 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2012/05/avww-post-release-1037-luminance-arc.html

This one is our first one since the Memorial Day holiday yesterday in the US.  It includes some interesting new changes for bosses, as well as three new spells, along with two new elite minibosses, plus some key fixes.

We're pretty much out of time to put in new features for 1.1, so we're going to be focusing more on polish (meaning fixes and balance) for the next few days.  The official 1.1 release will be late this week, and then we'll get cracking on 1.2 -- we have tons of stuff planned for that that simply wouldn't fit into 1.1.

More to come soon.  Enjoy!

UPDATE: 1.038 is out with a fix to two unhandled exceptions that could appear in a wide variety of situations in the prior version.  Sorry about that!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 0.500 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 0.500 or later, you can download that here.

I'm running into an issue where I can't destroy things I've created such as crates and platforms.  It spits a lot of nasty red text at me.  I tried this in the settlement and in a normal chunk.  I can still destroy trees and the such.

I'll have to make a mantis login one of these days.

Can anyone else confirm this? Because I am going to hold off on my upgrade if so.

Will the official 1.1 update have all of the 1.001 to 1.037 updates all in one, or will it include bonus update content for people who have been getting all the unofficial updates daily?

The official updates are always a big bundle of all the beta updates up to that point. Your special bonus for downloading the beta updates is getting that content early and/or getting crippling bugs.

On that note, anyone else getting a message that their world is already in use when they try to load it since this update? I judge by the lack of uproar that maybe it's just me (joy!) but I bug reported it anyway.

Ooh, I really like the sound of these new spells;  the ones that increase vulnerability to other types of spells, that's the sort of thing that I'd wanted to see show up in this at some point;  allows for interesting combo attacks.  And it sounds like there's an actual ranged attack that hits at the background now... finally a good way of getting at those blasted slimes without getting wrecked in the process!

One thing I'd still like to see more of though.... spells that have effects on enemies other than just damage or knockback.   These vulnerability ones are a good start, and there's always been ways to slow enemies down, or even stop them altogether (and in a couple of cases, remove their ability to fly entirely), but this isnt really based on the spells, but based on the enemy itself, like the Clockwork..... er.... clockwork..... flying thing, hit it with Tidal Pulse a few times and it slows down and drops out of the sky; this can make it alot easier to finish off with more direct spells.    More stuff like that..... spells that produce status effects or whatever..... definitely sounds like it would really fit in with the "tactical combat" idea of the game.   Particularly if you're using a character that isnt very high on attack power.

How about something like a "lock" spell?  Completely freezes an enemy in place, stops them from doing anything at all, but you cant damage it until the spell wears off.... would be a way to temporarily knock out certain foes while you concentrate on a different one.   I just randomly thought of this just now so figured I'd mention it.

Gonna go try this update out now, I think.

I'm getting fairly large bugs as well.

Related to the tooltips for enchants, it spits out the red text, and the tooltip doesnt display properly.... it only happens for specific enchants (seems random as to which, but it stays consistent, it doesnt switch to others), I can still equip and use them, but even just passing the mouse over them causes the bug.

Also, mousing over certain background entities causes a huge graphical spaz-out, where half of the stuff onscreen simply vanishes (UI, character, enemies, floor...) until I move the mouse away from the thing that was causing it.   The objects I saw this with first were those little brown box things that are in settlements.

Here are the related Mantis reports for both issues, both of which have the error report file attached to them:

http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=8303 (reported by Yiab)

http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=8304

I also had a blob of red gibberish appear briefly when smacking a red fairy with the geyser spell, but..... aside from the red text, it didn't seem to DO anything.  The spell still did it's damage and appeared to still have the intended effect.  The red text appeared, went away, nothing bad occurred at all.

This only happened once; smacking the other fairies in the room and other enemies with Geyser did not cause this.    This, though, is with me continuing with the game after the tooltip bug happened, so I'm not sure it counts.

EDIT:

Ooh, I'm really on a roll here with the bugfinding.

Here's another one:     http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=8305

Puzzle rooms arent completable right now due to the orbs apparantly not entirely being there or something...

EDIT AGAIN:

Whee!  More bugs!  This time, meteors in the meteor storm missions, I cant hit them with anything.  Red text blobs ahoy!

http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=8309

So far though, this is the ONLY mission type I havent been able to complete, so not a huge deal.

Yeah, 1.037 has a lot of bugs in it, many fairly crippling ones to boot. Nothing that crashes, but it does make lots of things impossible to do.

On top of that, Flamethrower doesn't work as it's supposed to: It makes enemies more vulnerable to fire instead of ice/water/steam. ...Which is kinda awesome in a way.

Hmm?

I spent some time with it regardless of the bugs..... didn't have any real trouble.   MOST things worked as intended;  the only thing it caused me trouble with were the enchants themselves, as some of them refused to show me stats; this included a few I already had before the patch, and using those I was able to see that they were still having their desired effects, so..... I mostly just ignored it for now.

It also didn't display the "you earned this" sort of text for some mission rewards after the mission ended, but I still GOT the items, so.....   Also did a lieutenant tower, no trouble.

Only the puzzle rooms were totally undoable.  I can warp back to that after the bug is fixed though, so that's no trouble.

I'm having a couple of bugs rendering the game unplayable ever since a couple updates ago.

1) I can't access any of my worlds. When I try to, the game tells me to remove the lock.dat file from the world folder (and I know there's not another AVWW running), but when I go there no lock.dat exists.
2) I get these runtime errors every time I try to load a world:

When craftable spellgems are dropped, they now are destroyed rather than falling into a bag on the ground -- the idea here is to prevent clutter.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

I been wanting that for months and glad it is in.  8)

And I agree, leafy whip already was inferior to Miasma Whip because of the cost, so the change is odd...I dunno, i'll check it out.

Glad the other was a hit. :)

Any real reason why Leafy whip was made more mana costly?

Well, looking at the stats and the range for it, with a high-mana character Leafy Whip was actually far superior to Miasma Whip.  It just depends on the character build; now LW is the exclusive domain of high-mana characters, and is pretty devastating against groups of foes in particular.
