JtP missions, and "cloaks"
« on: May 18, 2012, 05:28:26 am »
Thought I'd bring this up and see what others think of it.

All of the new enhancements to the JtP missions have made them MUCH better;  they went from hair-pulling aggravation, to being pretty darn awesome.

The one imbalance I'm finding though;  the cloak enchants can take all or most of the challenge out of these, since they can allow you to pop foes before they ever attack you.   Not to mention that you can detect them before you can see them on screen (sometimes WELL before).   I'm not sure if that part is unbalanced or not, but it might be, for this particular mission type.

This may depend somewhat on the strength of the enchant.... the one I have is 66% I believe?   It's a pretty good enchant.   But using it in these missions, it makes pretty much all enemies very easy to destroy without any retaliation.

My best cloak of shadows is at 80% and it does make JtP missions a walk in the park, but now that the spawn rate increases as you do a lot of them, maybe it gets harder later on, or maybe not. Right now though I only ever lose if enemies are standing right on top of me as I enter and I let go of the invincibility to soon. So these missions are by far the easiest of them all if you have the right enchant.

Aye.

I *think* I'm at the max difficulty for these missions now.... there's ALOT of spawners and they belch out enemies pretty fast.... but this enchant still makes it easy even with all of that.

Just a thought for us newbies, or well, casual players not as good as some others, but would a Mission difficulty level choosable when entering be a good way for hard core gamers to rachet up the difficulty, and the newbs to leave it at normal, or even dial into an easy mode?

Just a thought,

This, IMO, isn't really necessary, the other difficulty level settings already cover that. Some missions are more platforming based, so they are covered by the platforming difficulty, and some are more combat based, similarly covered by the combat settings.

And, I think that because of the wide range of skills needed in "missions" the way it is already makes sense. For example, I'm fairly decent at combat, but, I'm AWFUL at the platforming part, so, if I had a "mission" difficulty, and I racheted it up because boss towers were too easy, I'd be in a world of hurt come Lava Escape time.

As it is now, I just set the combat difficulty higher than the platforming, and the missions are pretty much were I want them to be.

I was wondering if maybe making the cloak not tell you where the enemy is could make these missions a bit more challenging, Personally I find that it is the ability to see so far ahead which makes them easy. Spawn doesnt really matter when no enemy is shooting at you, or increasing the enemy detection range (though this would make them near impossible for new players.) Maybe this enchant should simply not work in this mission, but reduce the enemy detection range so that they are actually possible.
