I missed a couple versions, and immediately I find myself missing the ability to right click on regions on the world map to get information. Is there a reason that was removed?

Yep, now you can wander around and see it without even having to right-click.  As Bluddy pointed out, we basically had two methods of exploring: walking, or the mouse.  And alongside the fact that was confusing, it devalued the exploratory nature of actually walking around.

enemies just can't be avoided because they can see you from offscreen when you cannot see them.

Maybe that is the real problem.

Maybe this is a conversation better saved for next week.  :-X

This runs counter to my extreme laziness. I would rise up in anger against it, but I would just have to immediately sit down again and wheeze for a while.

However, it does mean that missions that spawn in turbulent ocean areas are problematic. There's no way to find out of it's worth uncovering that tile for access to the mission without first... uncovering that tile.

That's not a soluble problem.  "on screen" has no meaning in this game in terms of enemy behavior, and never will.  That would make differing resolutions act very differently in solo, and in multiplayer it would be entirely broken because the server has no idea where your screen is (and that changes rapidly).

In a lot of senses it is a conversation worth being saved for now, but anything to do with "is the enemy onscreen" that isn't a client-side GUI-level thing (like tab targeting is) is going to be breaking the rules of physics. ;)

Hahaha.

Yep, that's quite true!  Hence the mysteries of exploration.  Good thing you can get up to 20 missions per continent now rather than 7, so that's not such a big deal. ;)  Because you're right, it would have been without the other change that went along with it.

Can't you just hop in a deep-sea ship in a port and sail over it?

Or is that too much effort? ;)

I'm going to need a version of AVWW that just plays itself while I watch. And then I want someone who will watch it for me, while I nap instead.

Edit: Slightly less silly note, is there a way to make clicking an achievement pop up the context? Without knowing what you just did to get that achievement, it seems kind of odd.

Yes, I totally agree. The "on screen" part isn't really what I was referring to. It was the
"without a chance" part.

the stealth lines sort of make me feel like i'm cheating.

If monsters gave off light in a circle with the same radius as the line, it would feel more "organic."  Ok, I'm talking in circles. This works great.

I know I feel antsy at work when we have under 2 weeks from code freeze to release, 3 days is crazy! You guys are Mavericks!

Nah, just totally not in a position to control that sort of thing.  If we strike it rich someday, then we'll have luxuries like sleeping and weekends and stuff. ;)

And the result of no sleep is... yep, insanity ;)

Or perhaps: alternative sanity.  Not so bad, really.

I was just about to mention the same thing.  If you put it on mantis, I'll vote for it.

Barring any last minute additions, is the going to be the 1.0 release, or are there housekeeping type things to do real quick-like Sunday night?

There's some housekeeping stuff in the last release coming for tonight, and there might be a tiny bit of that tomorrow morning.  Barring bugs of high significance, that will be 1.0 and nothing will change until the next beta version hits on presumably Monday. ;)
