Just to confirm what Moo said, i found an NPC Rescue Mission in cave pretty quickly whilst looking, so they do still exist.

Maybe the monsters are eating the survivors faster in 0.901.

Remember that secret missions themselves were made less frequent - perhaps that's why you're feeling they're elusive?

That's probably it. Finally found myself a Lumbermancer after like 2 hours of looking. Now it's Seek Survivors time all the time!  :)

Is it just me or are the spells coming out lower than they used to?

It feels like recently the point the player character's spells come out of has lowered to about knee height. I'm not entirely sure if it's actually changed or if it's been that way and I didn't notice it, but I'm definitely noticing it now.

I'd agree, but I'm not sure if it's new or not. I use plasma bolt a lot, so I see it getting absorbed by floors when shooting down hills and such. It would be nice if it could come out a little higher. Of course plasma bolt is kind of flaky anyway, and doesn't aim itself towards your cursor very well, especially when firing diagonally.

I just played a bit more and something is definitely really odd right now.

I entered this building and tried casting forest rage in several different directions repeatedly.
It seems that when I face fire the spell to the right comes out of my character's knee! If I fire to the left it's even lower, it comes out of his foot!

Something I'm pretty sure something isn't quite right.

EDIT:
I tried some of the other spells and it seems most of the other projectiles come out at knee height both ways.
Forest Rage seems to be the only one I've tried that clearly comes out at different heights depending on the direction.

Yeah, there is definitely something up with forest rage.

as an unfortunate side effect, I have now noticed that firing behind you makes your character look like they are farting spells.....

as to the more general point, I can't say I had noticed that certain spells spawn from knee-height, or whether it has recently changed to do so, my main spell recently has been launch meteor, and it seems to fire from chest height.

Character center of mass in general has lowered because of the collision box was shrunk a couple of versions ago.  Forest rage is just a visual thing because its image is not properly centered; it's an image problem with that one spell, not a code problem, and I just need to fix it.  (Referring to the difference in left vs right).

Speaking of shooting behind you, it feels a lot less comfortable now that the camera is constantly shifting to view ahead of you instead of staying centered. Can we have an option to keep it centered? The mouse look view doesn't cut it for me.

Also, as a mouse aimer, I would like to have the option for an "aim line" that draws from the character to the cursor, or at least a choice of different crosshairs (so I can find one that stands out more to me).

Let me know if you'd like either of those in mantis, and I can throw them up.
Time to roll out another ball of death.

We haven't changed the view handling controls since alpha started.  It's possible that you double-boung the G key, and are thus causing the "look ahead" feature to trigger without meaning to.

Weird. I must have been having an off day with aiming. Still, I like my ideas though, and it would be nice to have them as options for mouse aimers eventually, if it wouldnt be much trouble.

Feel free to throw it in mantis, I can't promise anything prior to 1.0 on something like that (it seems like a niche request to me, unless others are also clamoring for it), but it's certainly something we'd consider.  I would need to understand it a bit better than I currently do, though.  And definitely I'd check and make sure you weren't hitting the G key or something.  Generally the game tries to keep you centered on the Y axis, and within about the center 30% (or something like that) of the screen on the X axis.

I hate being that guy who nags about when his pet bug is going to get fixed... You know when someone says something like that they're about to do it, so let me jump right in! http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=5823 is leading to some rather ugly deaths. Is this something that is proving hard to pin down or did it just slip through the cracks? I'm not sure what severity level 'text' is, but it doesn't sound all that high on the list of things to do.

So thats what caused my instant death some days ago, i already wondered whether this was supposed to be this way or not. Also damage is 7 times as high, or maybe storm dash brings other factors into play, like the actual "hit" happens more than once?
