AVWW Beta 0.536, "Snake In The Window," Released!
« on: November 01, 2011, 04:28:05 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2011/11/avww-beta-0536-snake-in-window-released.html

This one is another one that has been several days in the making because of the intense number of internal changes that have been a part of it.  The recently-revised multiplayer model is continuing to get further along, and as a part of that we've done some refactors to help make for (longer-term) fewer bugs in both multiplayer and solo.

The intro mission is also progressing nicely, and you'll notice some changes to the first three sections of the mission that were previously released (these changes will only be in new worlds, not existing ones, FYI).  Actually a fourth screen has now been added, and the first four (of ten) rooms inside a new building type for the intro mission, but since there were six missing rooms that lead more or less into black holes, all those new screens are disabled in this build.

More to the point for this release in terms of existing players, there's a number of bugfixes and tweaks.  The light snakes are now a lot more exciting and useful as they move faster, go further, and reveal the minimap as they go.  A lot of buildings now include some interior windows looking out at the sky when they are aboveground, making structures feel less enclosed unless you're actually underground.

More to come in the next couple of days, including an easy new enemy type that will be used in the intro mission.  Thanks for bearing with us during this period of work on the intro mission and multiplayer -- we'll be back to the features that are likely to be more exciting to our existing players soon.  Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 0.500 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 0.500 or later, you can download that here.

You may already know this, or perhaps i am simply dense and could not figure it out, but in the new 'snake' update, i was in a building, in a memory crystal area, and fell into a window, I couldn't get out, I tried jumping and extra jumping with ride the lightening, and then tried turning into a bat, but still couldn't get out that i could see.

I did have one of those 'return to main map' crystals, so that helped, i used it and appeared on the map and was able to get back to the home settlement, but now i am worried about falling into places I can't get out of,   :(

Anyway, any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, I probably am missing something obvious, sorry for that.

Do you have a savegame with that?  There should be no way for you to get into a window short of using the greater teleport spell.  How did you fall into it?

If you ever get stuck, use a warp scroll/potion to escape. They are much more plentiful and an excellent quick fix for any unfortunate confinement you might end up in, provided you are not in an active boss room where warping is blocked.

I apologize for not keeping the save game, stupid of me, i made a test world to try out your new intro mission,  :)  and was in one of the buildings when i went over one of the jumps and that is when the screen changed and showed me in the window. Sometimes there are little robots in other windows as well, but not all the time, only a few that i saw.

I can try it again, and let you know, but perhaps i am missing something obvious, like moving to the left or something to get out, anyway, i will keep in mind what wyvern83 said about warp scrolls, i have quite a few of those,  :)

Anyway, i am probably getting all freaked for no reason, its probably my fault for doing something that i don't know what i'm doing.  :)  Maybe you are right, i sometimes hit other buttons by mistake, maybe i hit the greater teleport that you are talking about?

Anyway, take care and thank you for asking,

Hmm... now i am back in my regular world, i went over to one of the crystal areas, i forget what they are called, and i am level 11, not terribly high, but the area is normally level 1 so the monsters are usually low and easy, unless they are roaming monsters.

Anyway... i am in a building, this time with no windows, and when i jump over the right side of the block of the room my character lands on the floor, then disappears and falls out of the ceiling, if i go to the end of that room, just a few feet actually, not a long hallway, then i disappear and fall again either from the ceiling or appear back on the left side. I paused the game there and didn't exit it, so perhaps you could see it if i send the save file.

My machine is just a compaq laptop, it is three and a half years old now but has 3g of memory, but is only a 2.2cpu. I do have Avast anti-virus running all the time, but it hasn't been an issue before now.

Is anyone else getting disappearing characters?  :)
Well, they reappear, it is just a little strange, you know?  :)

p.s.

I just exited the room and the game, and restarted the game and went back into that building and into cafeteria 3, and i get the same thing, disappearing character. If i don't touch anything after the jump, my character keeps falling out of the ceiling to the right, sometimes left, and i was wrong, there are windows in this room, on the left, where i appeared, but got out with a warp scroll, and exited the room and came back in, and it happened again.

Sorry to sound weird, i just wanted you to know what is happening.
Thank you and if you want me to send the save game i can do that.  Just let me know, thank you.

Hope i don't sound whinny or ungrateful, the game has been very stable for me and no problems at all, so hope this doesn't sound bad.

I ran into the same thing, I think, with my character `blinking' around.

I really like the new light snake so far ^_^

The windows need some work to actually work, I think. It might help if they weren't separated from the room by a black wall, but something that looks like a window instead :) It also feels odd that the `outside' is just one line of air, surrounded by solid black.

Teal, You don't sound whiney at all. But, if you could send us a save of that game so we can check it out, that would be great! It sounds like you've run into a pretty nasty bug.

Ok,  :)   Here goes, the world is Teir, although there is TelAhn in there too as a test world, but Teir is the main world. I left my character in the room as you requested.

Thank you and take care,

:)

Thanks again Teal. This one is fixed for future rooms, though that specific one is still gonna stay messed up.

In other words, that room that is messed up won't be fixed in the new version. But, I've fixed it so that this issue won't be happening in any new rooms. :-)
