This one is our third and final release of the day.

The thing I'm most excited about it is the work that's been done on the intro mission framework.  The mission-as-implemented-so-far is just a tiny cave that you walk out of (yay), but what that tiny cave represents is pretty substantial for my ability to now move this mission design out of the word processor and into the game.

The thing that I expect many existing players will be the most excited about in this one is the changes to settlement seeding logic -- there are now hard minimums on how infrequently settlements can seed on the world map.  That wasn't previously the case, so we had some players who were level 60-70 before seeing their second settlement, while other players were finding their second settlement easily by level 20.  That was definitely too much variance!

There are a number of other fixes and defensive coding bits added in this version, too.  If you have one of the few kinds of graphics cards that supports shader model 3.0 or higher, but which doesn't support vertex fragment programs, it will now auto-disable the dynamic skies so that you see the nice static skies instead of a hot pink sky backdrop.  Destroyed rooms are also now the thing that are the most likely to be missing if there's a missing door in a building room, which is another big plus.

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 0.500 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 0.500 or later, you can download that here.

Yay at level 58 finally found my second and also third settlement. They have seeded right next to each other in the same type of region with the same name so not sure if this is how it should be.

Still happy to finally find some more survivors.

Cheers!  And no worries on the two settlements being there -- that's a factor of your old world file playing "catch up."  But it shouldn't negatively affect you. :)

Just had a major crash in my world and now it's unplayable I will post a report and error files in Mantis. Hope it can be rescued I was enjoying tonights session.

Definitely always back up your worlds periodically during beta in particular.  But sorry to hear about the crash, will want to see the error report and the full world most likely as well.

I have uploaded the unhandled error.txt to Mantis do you need the World and Region.dat too?

I need the whole world folder to be able to fix this one, actually.  There's always free sites like sendstuffnow or mediafire or similar if it's too large.

Okay, attached please find the repaired world.dat file.  Just drop that into your world folder on top of your existing world.dat file and you should be good to go!

The next version of the game would auto-repair it itself, but for now I am just going ahead and returning this to you.  A few things might be out of date by up to a few minutes from your play session, and the chunk you were specifically in has been lost and will need to be regenerated when you walk into it.  The only time that's usually a problem is if it was a settlement or something central like that, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.  Whew!
