Permadeath and character attachment
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:23:41 pm »
First off, let me say I like the permadeath feature. I like that when a particular character dies, he's gone, but you don't lose all your work as it's your Civ level that's increasing rather than an individual player level.

That being said, I think I'd like more ways of customizing and "working" (progressing?) a particular character, I think it would add to my attachment and make them feel more like individuals. I haven't advanced too far in the game yet so perhaps there's already ways to do so, but I was wondering if there were future plans to add additional character-specific advancement/customization?

No plans to add character-specific customization that matters in a gameplay sense; we don't want to encourage save-scumming.  THAT said, finding ways to customize your characters in ways that affect only the macro-game is definitely something that we plan to do increasingly.

What, no in-game hat-selling Ilari?

Well, those are cosmetic, technically, so they would fall under the area that we WOULD be okay with doing. Except that dynamic hats don't really work with this art style, of course.  And it wouldn't be microtransaction-based, obviously. ;)

But having, say, a house that belongs only to the character, and which they can customize in some way, might be a thing.  Or relationships or pets or something much further down the line.  Or something else we've not thought of yet.

Most of that is for well past 1.0, possibly even into expansion territory when you talk about relationships in particular, but I think there are some simpler things that we'll be able to figure out in the meantime.
