Switching MP hosts?
« on: May 28, 2012, 03:12:32 pm »
I've got a world that I've been playing on with a friend. In the past, I've always hosted it, but in the immediate future my internet connection is going to be questionable so it might be better if we could switch hosting duties to him. I can send him the world file, of course, but how do we ensure we each end up with the right characters?

The player accounts (and thus the characters) are tied to the combination of your customer ID (the part of your license key before the first hyphen) and your profile name, so it doesn't matter which physical machine the server is running on or who of the in-game players (if any) is running the server.

Just transfer the world folder to the other machine, start it up, and you should be good to go :)  Of course, if that machine has never run AVWW in server mode there's usually ports to forward to get it working for non-LAN multiplayer, etc.  But no additional wrinkles on that part simply because the world started somewhere else.
