Brainstorming - A 2nd Purpose For Consiousness Shards
« on: May 06, 2012, 01:40:31 am »
Aren't Consciousness Shards supposed to be fragments from Environ's shattered Reality? If they aren't, then maybe they can be, because I have an idea of how people could use the shards outside of being a currency.

All over the world, there could be cracks in reality. These cracks wouldn't show up on the world map, so players have to look around, giving you exploration incentive. These Cracks raise the enemies in the area by one tier (If there are tiers to raise) and cause a windstorm only in that chunk (I haven't decided on what the effects should be if the crack is in a building or cave, you decide. =D). And depending on how large the crack is, could effect surrounding chunks as well. The larger the crack, the more shards you would need to repair it.

If you have enough, you can spend the shards to close the crack, restoring balance to the area, and getting a rare enchant as a prize! But the Enchants aren't always the best, so players need to decide whether they want to gamble their shards for a potentially powerful enchant, or bank em to save for the store.

Does this sound good? =)

That actually sounds decent  :D I thought of something similiar.

Although  the enchantements rewards are not that great, finding enchantements is great fun. But now that you can buy them and get them easily, overall finding enchantements is not that fun anymore.

Then the update could also alter the way you buy enchantments. How about you can still buy enchantments, but they're only alterations of ones that you received from reality cracks? Which means that if you want new enchantments, you need to seek out more cracks.

Aren't conciousness shards supposed to be the remains of people who were unable to stay.....together when all the time periods collapsed into each other?

If that's true there should be something you can do with shards in the game that reflects and highlights that.

Perhaps the shards can be used to pull a person or two back together, or even another settlement (without buildings) if there was enough of them in one place.

Consciousness Shards are shattered people? o_o

Well... that's kind of graphic, but it explains why they are called consciousness shards! ^_^;

Anyways, yeah, that sounds like the best way to go about utilizing them. It could be another way of getting characters into your settlement aside from rescue missions.

I still think that shards should be shattered forms of every type of reality, not just people, because the cracks in reality would be great for people who love getting loot. =)

That sounds like a something that could be added in a later expansion, since it may require new art. Unless the "destroyed building" outlines are used with the tear, but I think the background "sky" or "wall" would be the same since it's just tiled. That could cause confusion with destroyed buildings as well. You might think the entire building is full of tears!
