Game will not Launch

So I just bought this game on Steam, and at first it worked fine. Now, all I can get on launch is a black screen and nothing responds. I have to Alt-Tab or Ctrl-Alt-Del to exit out, and then when I get the game turned off, it still shows up as running when I try to restart it in Steam. Task manager shows it still running, and I can't get it to turn off. I have to reboot my computer to get the game to launch again. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you on windows?  That sounds really strange indeed -- for some reason, it sounds like something is preventing it from shutting down.  And then it's got some assets locked, and/or steam won't let you launch something else after that.  If you look in the Processes tab of the Ctrl+Shift+Escape task manager, you should be able to see and kill LastFederation.exe.  If steam still thinks it is open, you can restart steam and it will forget.  If steam won't restart, you can kill steam.exe via the same method above.

None of those are ideal solutions, obviously, but they prevent a reboot at least.  This is honestly a new one on me.  You might look inside your LastFederation_Data folder and see what is in your output.log after things have either started-but-failed-to-stop or failed-to-start.  Also there are logs inside the RuntimeData folder, too.  If you post those we can see what we can do (though on the weekends we're a lot slower than usual, sorry about that in advance).

Hi, i have  the same problem of masterJJ136, the game, mine is not from steam, give me a black screen and if i click around the screen i can hear some error sound(so i think that it dosen't load the menu graphics).

Hi there, sorry to hear about your problem.  Since you are not on Steam, it will not automatically update for you without being able to launch the game, which is of course a problem in this case!

So what I have done is made a zip file that will upgrade any OS's copy of the game from version 1.900 or higher (well, up to 2.010) to version 2.011.  This latest version 2.011 has the fixes that are noted here: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=16075

Okay... hmm.  How about now, with the attached?

If this still fails, can you upload any error messages from inside your RuntimeData folder inside the game folder?

Hello, I have recently bought the game, I have never launched it. I meet the requirements to launch the game. Despite this, I am unable to play the game. I try to launch the game but nothing happens that can be noticed. When I attempt to view my computer processes, it displays that the program is running, however it never launches and the program stops running after a few seconds. I would greatly appreciate some assistance with this. Thanks

Hi,

where did you buy the game from? I had a problem with my GOG version as well (crashed when starting it up for the first time after the install). Using the manual patch from the attachement above fixed it for me, though. Hope this helps!
