Bug or intended behavior with Evucks gas giant ignition

So I'm coming to the end of my first playthrough, and I've encountered a problem. The Evucks are the only race not in my federation or dead, and they've decided they want to blow up their planet(s). I managed to get the Skylaxians to convince them to join, and got a notification saying they'd joined. They then immediately left the federation and re-initiated the countdown.

Is this supposed to happen that way, or is it a bug?

Welcome to the forums!  Definitely a bug, already reported here: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=14611

I think the info you provided is an interesting potential insight to the actual problem, though.  If you can post your savegame, we can see about getting that resolved for the Monday night patch (this is Keith's part of the code, and this is his anniversary weekend, and I'm a little reluctant to make things worse by messing about in this particular code section).  Sorry about the delay that causes.

this is a save from just after it happened (On my dropbox, but I can put it somewhere else if need be). I ran the game a bit longer, and the Evucks gave up on the detonation. I was then able to have the Skylaxians get them to join and won the game. As an aside, I am very much enjoying the game so far and am looking forward to playing more of it.

I can check for an older save if it would help.

For 1.007:

* Now when the Evucks join the Federation, if they were working on igniting a gas giant they now cancel that action.
** Previously, when they would just keep at it, this would result in their immediate ejection from the Federation (as with any other alliance).
