So they resent assistance. Can I do anything?
« on: April 21, 2014, 05:37:56 am »
I wanted to improve relationship between two races. During the months that I spent on the dispatch mission, the relationship actually become worse because one race continued to "assist" the other and the other resented this assistance much more than my pitiful effort to sway them otherwise. Is there anything I can do in this situation?

Well, as the old joke goes, if it hurts when you do something, you should probably stop doing it!

Some races don't take too kindly to others helping them out. The Andors, well known for their pacifism and generosity, are typically targets for this since a lot of their deals help other races out. I don't believe this sort of resentment is true with all races though, but I haven't experimented enough with the game to figure it all out yet.

That said, there are a few ways to help boost relationships between two races. Under "Friendly Actions" you can always dispatch yourself to improve relationships between the two, though that only goes up to a point (50 influence?), and that does take time. By far one of the best ways though is setting up a trade route. Trade routes seem to build up a good amount of  influence between the two races over time. The only issue is that some races don't have the option to broker trade routes (Burlasts come to mind as one example), however, I think you can still have the other party initiate a trade route with them? (I could be wrong about this).

Tell that to Andors.

Yep, that was Andors who was helping and got resented for it more and more.

Man, that's exactly what I told you in OP I'm doing! It's just not improving things fast enough. While I improve it by say 20, it drops by another 60 on it's own because of the resentment I mentioned above!

Yeah, so the other race was Burlusts. I'm guessing there is no way to make them friends with Andors at all? It looks like none of your suggestion would work in my situation...

If the andors have a large tech advantage, then have you tried asking them to share these with the Burlusts?

I'm not quite sure about advantage (they probably do) but the whole point is that they are helping Burlusts non-stop and that's what getting Burlusts attitude against them sink, since they resent help.
Are you saying that sharing techs can lead to the opposite?
