Title: SR Expansion Alpha testing
Post by: Pepisolo on August 12, 2017, 11:13:22 am
Hey guys

So, we've started the Alpha testing for the upcoming SR expansion. This is very early testing, via a pretty janky build. Additionally, we have gone back to basics for the distribution of this build, so it will not be done through Steam, we will just be sending testers a standalone executable. Yep, this is quite early stuff and so may not be the most enjoyable experience. If you don't mind that, though, we are looking for a few more testers. If anybody is interested, just PM me and I'll set you up.

Expect to start seeing feedback in the alpha forum, on mantis, and probably also in the Starward Rogue Discord chat. Cheers!

Hopefully nothing breaks.

Just a note that the Alpha Build 2 has been sent out, so everybody who signed up for the testing should've received a PM about it now. Cheers!

Just a note. Alpha Build 3 has now been sent out to testers. This is not far off Beta quality, so if anybody else wants to sign up to test a more polished build, now would be a good time. Although, you could always just wait for the Beta, of course.

Just a note to say that I've sent an email out to testers about the Beta, although that's specifically talking about the base game Beta build for now. The AuGMENTED Beta details will be sent at a later time.

Ca we pre-order the expansion actually? or would this be too much work to make?

It's strongly discouraged by Valve in general, and not supported on DLC at all.  With off-site sales that's not supposed to happen, either, until it's also available for sale via Steam.  That pretty much makes it no dice, unfortunately.

edit: For Steam copies, that is.  We could sell non-Steam copies that later get a Steam key that goes with them, and that would be A-OK.  We've done that sort of thing in the past, for the AI War expansions.  But we're running this expansion exclusively through Steam prior to launch, for the sake of ease, so that's what restricts us.  Valve doesn't have any sort of exclusivity, it's just what we're doing for time constraints.

Yeah, I understand, wth AI War 2 also in development, there is too much stuff on your heads to look for a way for a non-Steam pre-order process.
I guess I have to wait then. I can still play the Alpha anyway.

Yep, and I'm working on yet ANOTHER title, too.  AI War 2 doesn't pay any bills for me, at least not until it's out.  I was supposed to be a lot farther along on my other project now than I am, and it's been mentioned since before the second kickstarter even started, but both Keith and I had to put in more work on AI War 2 (by a lot) than expected.
