So I got my ark killed and I noticed something odd...

The game didn't end, the music just cut out and the AI thought I was dead. I could still control my ships and build things and metal income continued (I couldn't capture planets though). Without the ark the game would be very difficult, but it is odd that there was no game over screen or anything.

Also, on gaining vision to the whole map, I noticed that while there was two Mk V planets, there is only one master controller in the galaxy. This might be though because there is currently only one AI player.

Either way I'll put both of these on Mantis

I noticed something similarly odd like this - on an X map, the AI Homeworld was a Mk V world in the lower right branch... but there were 3 other random Mk V worlds in the other branches.
I think that Core Worlds may be formally marked as Mk V this time around, but on the X map, none of them were adjacent to the AI Homeworld.

Has anyone else noticed extra Mk V worlds around?

Yeah, there definitely are.

Yea, I had noticed that as well. I was starting to think that there were multiple AI homeworlds for each AI and was not looking forward to dealing with that. Dealing with the Mk V Bomber waves was rather annoying. Having a ship type that can take over an AI controller other than your ark would be nice, but I want to say that they explicitly said that they want to have the ark be the only one capable, to make it a bit more of a choice when and where to throw it in to take a planet.

There is plans to have flagships that are repairable and function as arks, minus hacking. I just don't think they are in the alpha yet. So the only thing that requires your ark to be there is a hacking run, which is supposed to have some more variety and interest to it as well.

There might also be the multiple Mk V planets just because there aren't two AI players yet as there always was in Fleet Command. I believe Chris or Kieth mentioned in the kick starter that they were going to have only one AI player but multiple sub-commanders? So perhaps those will be living on the Mk V planets once they are in the game.

I think the Mark V Shieldships you can capture are examples of flagships.

If the derelicts aren't enough, what about having an ARS on core worlds (maybe rename it, considering the specific purpose proposed) that, once captured, gives this ship type. If that's too easy, why not a timer and exo-waves?

The mark V shield starships you can find and claim are indeed flagships, and can capture planets, etc.
