Tales from the Void is... weird. I excepted soemthign different. It's not a bad game but the controls are a little weird. okay, they are very weird.
The game basically centers about british marines from the first world war that test a new prototype weapon but instead wiping out the german fleet the thing teleports them to space. Fitting to the weird setting is the gameplay. Each day you select what mission you want to do and then you select your suqad and fit it out with weapons. So far I've seen three classes, scout (fastest unit, can only use lght weapons), gunner (heavy attacker, uses strong guns and explosives) and engineer (support unit, can stun enemies).
Now comes the really strange part of the game: it tries to simulate real physics in space. In such an unrealistic scenario (how can they even survive in space?!) this simply had to be done. This means your marines hop around the asteroid fields and try not to fall over their own feet. they stumble into each other, into rocks and curse every single step they have to do. Instead of directly ordering them around, you draw lines on the map and tehy follow it. This feels pretty akward but can result in pretty hilarious scenarious. Or in annoying ones when one soldier is stuck.
There are of course enemies and of course they are aliens. Your soldiers will autimatically target the closest enemy but you can manually select which target they should prefer. the game uses an active pause system, meaning you can pause anytime and still submit orders. Your soldiers will fulfill your orders right after you unpaused. This is useful and propably the only way not to loose your entire sanity towards the controls.
Every enemy and marine can fall off the asteroid and die. You can use this to your advantage and use grenades to push enemies from cliffs. You can also use the environment to your favor, rocks can be shot or moved with explosions and if they roll over enemies, they deal great damage.
Besides the end goal of a mission you can also search for supplies in the environment.
Wit each mission you do, you loose air, rations and crew members (depending if they died in a mission). If you have nothing left from any resource you loose the game. You can find however always more in missions. The goal seems to be to ruvive fifteen days until you find the prototype weapon again and shoot yourself back to earth.

I think i can suggest the game at this price but at the full price you have to consider that the controls are terribly designed with the intent to make the game harder.

Funnily enough, the one game I ended up grabbing during this sale was Nuclear Throne, which was the only game on my list that wasn't on sale. And it's every bit as fun as I was hoping. You can shoot to your heart's content and still drown in ammo/spare weapons. So much fun!  :D

Yeah, pretty much.

And the moments when you DO run out of ammo and cant quite get to other guns at the time... which will happen every now and then... tend to be abrupt and surprising.  Like "Oh, crap, I actually ran out of explosives somehow, and I'm surrounded!  How did I screw that up?!?"

Far as I'm concerned though some of the game's fun is just sucked out at floor 5-3.  And the damn crowns really are a missed opportunity.

My buys from the summer sale were: Duskers, Steamworld Heist, and Axiom Verge. Steamworld Heist I've put the most time into, and it reminds me of a single player campaign version of worms. It's quite fun! Duskers is really enjoyable as well though I only have put a little time into it. Axiom Verge I booted up yesterday evening and got really sucked in.

All in all happy with my purchases, hopefully I can actually finish some of them too!
