I tried the new campaign too a few days ago =).

I lost 4 times, then looked at a wiki to see what we had to do, and lost the will to restart one because of this exact behaviour you're describing =).

Tutorial took me just over two hours. If you are having trouble with the last tutorial, there are two pieces of advice I would give you. One is to put the headquarters on the resource squares that are giving double bonuses near the bottom, so grab those. The next piece of advice is, the entire point of the scientific track is that you don't need primitive resources to build advanced resources. Advance resources typically give good payouts. The other thing that I did was monopolize the water squares. Yes, there are a lot of them, but it's easy to plop a bunch of farms on top (remember, this gives you water because you are playing as the scientific faction). Sooner or later, all of these free resources from placing your more complicated resource buildings on top pays well, and you can start doing buyouts. When you do a buyout, you can upgrade those headquarters and start putting down more resource blocks (by now, you should know what pays the most), and you will be ready to win the game.

Yep, that worked. Was a close call, since the AI had 70% buyout threat a minute before I pressed the buyout button. Also I did not upgrade the HQ past level 3. I might have put myself at disadvantage for doing this, but in the end it worked.

So I finally won a campaign map where you need to buy modules of the colony, not buy out the other factions.

Yeah, that blue line is me.  Can't be bought out: debt is irrelevant: produce and sell-for-cash auto-purchased goods (that's not power), using the funds to buy the moduels.

I feel dirty.

Blue line aint lookin so healthy........

Kind of the point when I posted it.  The only way to win was to tank my stock price.

So it's released now. I think that during last few month I grew fond of it, but it's certainly not for everyone. This is essentially a game about who is better at balancing a few numbers.
Since the number of claims is limited you cannot infinitely increase your production, you have to choose based on your location, resources you have available and your base type.

I realize that is very niche, and that some people might still consider it shallow... On the other hand the number of people playing hero clicker is mind blowing...

I always have a hard time with the word "shallow" these days.  What people consider to be "depth" seems to vary wildly and in some cases make no sense.  I find it hard to really get a grasp on the concept.

I'm curious, how is the game when it comes to singleplayer?  I'm not really big on multiplayer myself for strategy games (another reason why I got into AI War since it's the very rare RTS that's actually designed for singleplayer).

I haven't touched it in a while, but I'm still pretty certain that the multiplayer is where this game will be the most fun.  At least with players "as good" as you are.  The AI is ungodly intelligent about its decision making, even at the lower difficulties.

I like the Trump references in the new tutorial (new since I last played it anyway).

Yeah, this is triggering my "wait and see" position on the game. I don't mind getting steamrolled if I don't understand the game, but once I do, I'd rather not feel like a complete moron. I will be playing it exclusively as a single player game, because hell is other people (in competitive strategy games).

From the reddit thread, and I think this is pretty accurate.
