First win on normal!  Only second time I've gotten to Sector 8.  Revised my overall strategy and things worked out much better.

Recently unlocked a couple of other ships and I'm massively enjoying the Stealth Cruiser that starts with a Glaive Beam. Takes 25 seconds to power up...but damn it melts stuff xD

I keep trying to unlock more ships. They are elusive, though. I was a hair away from unlocking the rock ship. :(

I want me a rock ship.  Well, some rock crew, at least.  Boarding is awesome, but even my crack mantis troops have trouble on ships with no oxygen (don't suppose I could get some pressure suits for these guys?); with the max'd teleporter I can get them over there, do a point or two of damage to a system, then beam them off before they suffocate.

On the bright side, nobody's there to repair the damage.

Neither do missiles, beams, asteroids, solar flares, or shipboard fires. ;)

Three questions:
1) Does anything stop Transporters?
2) Are Bombs basically missiles that bypass defensive drones?
3) Are Rock guys immune to lack of oxygen?  It says they are immune to fire, but doesn't mention oxygen immunity.

The Zolt "extra shield layer" does, iirc.  I don't know if there's a player ship that has that.  Stopping boarders is pretty easy, though, unless you're shorthanded or otherwise already in dire straits.

Yea, I think that's accurate.  They ignore shields, and they have a miss chance, and they can mess you up royally if they hit.  Sounds like a missile to me :)

Haven't actually tested it, but that's what I understood from something I read on boarding.

Rock guys are not suffocation proof. They last longer though.

The breach drone (and the anti-personnel defender drone) however, is indeed space-proof.

You can unlock a Zoltan ship with one of those fancy shields, although I'm yet to do so.

Bombs teleport into the location you send them so they do indeed skip defensive drones, plus they appear slightly quicker where they're going, and give you a momentary glimpse of the room you send them to (crew, etc.). They don't do hull damage but generally they'll do more personnel and systems damage than equivalent missiles.

During the beta phase I saw that pressure suits were on the cards - the concept was for them to significantly reduce damage taken while in a vacuum rather than negate it entirely, mostly for balance reasons - but cryptically the developers seem to have become mentally overwhelmed with the idea that their game was a major hit on release and have as such lapsed into a slightly comatosed state from which they may do no further development on the game.*


*I assume, in fact, that their statement on the subject is simply ill-worded and they are genuinely still working on additional content - but, boy, does it sound like they've freaked!  :D

The only ships with the Zoltan Supershield are the Zoltan Pirates (after the second sector), the Zoltan Cruiser you can unlock and the Rebel Flagship in Phase 3. The Supershield blocks everything. Missiles, transports, bombs, all of it. It does however also take damage from everything (including beams!) in difference from normal shields.

Rock Men are not immune to asphyxiation, but due to their massive health pool (150 compared to a human 100), the take a lot longer to expire.

Also, I learned the hard way not to try and asphyxiate an enemy ship when they still have an upgraded medbay on board :/ I couldn't take it out without killing the ship. Sadface.

Are you sure? I'm fairly sure the breach bomb does actual hull damage. And the normal bombs also do hull damage, although you usually use them to take out systems first. The ion bomb and fire bomb do no damage at all to hull or systems, but the ion bomb will disable systems, and the fire bomb will burn crew to a crisp. Both with its initial explosion and with its resulting fire.

Guys, after I upgraded shields, when they are hit a small lock sign appears on top of the system icon and the energy indicator for system turns blue. under the system icon 2 or 1 in a circle is shown for short time. what does this represent?
