How to make a Hamachi server work?
« on: September 09, 2012, 03:06:42 pm »
I've been trying Hamachi many times to host a private server.
I can connect to myself via LAN and IP, yet my friends get a no-response error every time.
All our MTU are 1400.
I have AVWW allowed through my firewall.
No open ports, hence I'm using Hamachi.
No-IP DUC didn't help.
Advertizing to the main server works fine, the name shows up, but no one can connect to it.

Someone please outline the required steps to get this working.
Other games work just fine, everyone can connect. Yet with the same settings, AVWW does not.

Connect to hamachi IP, not actual IP.

Well, you can't host an advertised server through Hamachi and have people connect to that.  In order for them to connect, they have to join your hamachi network and then do a direct connect to the hamachi IP address, as Aklyon said.  The advertised address is your public internet IP, not your Hamachi IP, given that's the IP that is used to contact our server and thus do the advertisement.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, that's (both posts above) exactly what I've been doing.
I can connect to myself in direct and LAN, yet everyone else can't.
They try every connection type every time, same result.

I'm looking for a list of things to check to get this working.

FiOS, wifi router, no access to it's settings, hence Hamachi.
Hamachi is set to a Home network with file sharing enabled.

I haven't used Hamachi in years, so I don't know what settings they have -- the two things you mention didn't exist back then.  Generally speaking if you are both on a Hamachi server and they are trying to connect via your 5.x.x.x Hamachi IP, then things should work unless the sole issue of a software firewall is there.  All the router-based stuff generally doesn't matter with Hamachi (that's the point), since Hamachi is encrypting and wrappering all the communications that are sent through it.  If any data goes through Hamachi on your router, then all data should unless either a software firewall or Hamachi itself is blocking it.

Make sure AVWW is allowed through Windows Firewall and/or any other firewall software you have in the network.

Also, try resetting your router and looking for 'default fios router user/password', if its in the house somewhere. That'll more then likely get you router access, and you don't have to be wire connected to the router to edit settings.

Anyone that knows the actual settings for Hamachi to describe the process of making sure it works?

Already have it allowed through antivirus and windows firewall.

Also, try resetting your router and looking for 'default fios router user/password', if its in the house somewhere. That'll more then likely get you router access, and you don't have to be wire connected to the router to edit settings.
No access, irrelevant. I just want to find out how to get Hamachi working so either I or my friends know how to host,
because we don't have router access.
Again, other games work perfectly fine, just not this one.

Don't you have to change the port AVWW uses to match a Hamachi port?

No, Hamachi forwards any port that is using its address -- that's part of the nature of a VPN.  However, the adapter order for Hamachi's virtual network adapter might matter, if game traffic is defaulting to the wrong adapter.  That would be something that would affect other games, too, so a more up to date tutorial on getting the latest versions of Hamachi to work with any game would also double for getting it to work with ours.

Hmm.
Is hamachi itself allowed through your various firewalls as well, Denninja?

Yep, the whole setup is.
Note that I have other games working fine at the moment.

Ah yes, I remember having epic issues getting Demigod to work via Hamachi (before it was released on Steam) due to adapter order. I had to change it around so that the Hamachi adapter was the first (or primary) adapter, or Demigod would insist on using the LAN-card.

There's a good chance that is what is happening here, it sounds like increasingly.

It almost certainly is the case, if his other games are working fine.

Well that sounds like something I have no idea what to do about.  :o

I have 1 Homegroup as Home Network with file sharing enabled, it contains both my Wireless Network Connection and Hamachi. (Listed first)

My Network Adapters as shown in order on Device Manager:
Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
Broadcom Netlink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
Hamachi Network Interface

That's all. Is the LAN adapter you're talking about the second one?
I can disable it at no loss, I don't use it. Trying that now while messing with IP/port settings on both the server and Hamachi.
