Miscellaneous Complaints
« on: December 16, 2018, 05:22:14 pm »
  • Starships aren't "big heavy" units and will get bumped out of place by even a single fleet ship. This makes managing shield starships a right pain in the ass.
  • Orbital mass drivers have their damage bonus listed...effectively backwards. I mean, I get how it works, but my first glance was "against targets with at most 4kT...wait what? Oh, damage is x0.01." Very few units use the "if X then less damage" wording.
  • Sometimes after warping into a hostile wormhole a fraction of my forces ends up on the opposite side of the gravity well for no apparent reason.
  • Engineers assisting the building of things can only assist up until the hull and shields are at 100% (even if its not done building!)
  • Albedo: higher is more reflective. For most mechanics and descriptions this is correct. However the Ablative Gatling does bonus damage at albedos > 0.7 and its description says that it "uses the target's high absorption against it." One of the two things is wrong.
  • Ship list: double-clicking on a unit in the shiip list will jump you to it. If there's more than one, screw you (double clicking will always jump to the FIRST unit and there's no way to cycle through).
  • Dire Tesla Guardians have a bonus listed as "armor < 101mm" instead of "at most 100mm" like most other units.
  • Units with an ongoing destination that bump into other units get an immediate maneuver command to move them to free space before continuing on to their destination. This is awful when the command is "Get the hug off that planet NOW." Mildly annoying other times, but significantly more frustrating when you watch a shield starship suddenly turn around during a retreat order.
  • Tooltips sometimes don't update. More than once I've hovered over a unit in the side bar only to get the "at this planet" summary. Or the tooltip for a completely different unit.

Fixed the Starship one - did the same to Guardians as well. The shield versions of them have higher priority than the rest, so a Shield Starship will push other Starships off itself.

Also fixed the Ablative Gatling - it now mentions reflective defense instead of absorbtive power.

Fixed OMDs as well - keeping the original the same and making the multiplier 0x would've made them not waste shots on things they can barely hurt but...don't think anyone really did that kind of cheese i.e using a fleetship to tank it then sending in Starships anyway. Did the same to Sabots (Arachnids from Classic). Figure this is a bit easier to read than before - grown to dislike these <1 multipliers recently.

As for the rest, all things I can't do unfortunately.
Autistic, so apologies for any communication difficulties!

I just reported this issue with steps to reproduce: https://bugtracker.arcengames.com/view.php?id=20871

This one is also reported but I was unable to reproduce it consistently: https://bugtracker.arcengames.com/view.php?id=20870

When you see the "ships appearing elsewhere in the gravwell when going through wormholes" bug, is it the ship model and the icon? Or just the icon? And do the ships stay elsewhere in the grav well? Or just appear for a second?

I have seen this too- while I may not have exactly the same experience it sounds similar, so here goes: I've only seen the icons since I don't tend to zoom in that much, but the game definitely thinks the ships are there- they fire, are fired upon, move, transit further wormholes etc exactly as you'd expect from their displayed position. As far as I can tell, they appear pretty much in the same coordinates in the new gravity well as the wormhole they left in the old one- i.e. as if the gravwell they are located in has been updated but their coordinates have not.

Ship model and the icon. They don't rubberband back to the wormhole so they really are there on the edge of the gravwell.
Here's an example with 3 levels of zoom.

Everything. The ships really are there, really do take damage out there from things that have range, can shoot things they're in range of, and can be given move orders.

The best way to describe the effect would be a finite improbability device having been activated.
