That actually sounds like a good idea  :o

You'd have to build a bridgehead with a post to make the patrols come over into hostile territory...and defend it!

I also like the "Zombie and Minor Faction attractor post" idea. That idea of making them vulnerable to attack, and thus you need to defend them, helps to keep it from becoming broken. I assume that it would also be seen by he AI as a "sabotage attempt" and thus would make it spawn some extra defenders, like the Mk. III science lab currently does?

Not sure if I like it better than my idea (check the link I posted earlier in this thread), but if my idea gets rejected, I would strongly support this one.

Good idea in itself, I'd say.

But having attractor posts would still be nice  ::)

I like that idea.

Another idea would to have them gradually "attach" themselves to friendly ships. Following them around. Leaned heavily toward large ships, especially those in the flagship line. Maybe have tractor turrets be something they take an affinity for too.

Too much micro necessary to make use of them, then.

Alternatively, would it be possible to have a toggle switch or a menu to select where to send the allied forces?  It would increase the gravitation of the allied forces to what you set.

For example, if you set it to border worlds, most of your allied ships would go to border worlds.  If you set it to wave worlds, the ships will automatically gravitate to worlds that are going to have a wave.

You wouldn't be directly commanding them, just influencing their destination.

That would probably have to be a control option, as that is pretty much the only way to communicate user choosable state stuff over the network. However, there is the issue of who takes control of the minor faction units. The host? The highest player number (closest to 1, the host) with this control option set? The most popular option of all players who have this set?
Zombies of course should use the setting of the player they belong to.

God damned multiplayer, making things complicated.

I'm happy with them gravitating to wherever the waves are. If there are none, they should just travel randomly through friendly territory and FRD-hunt any hostiles.

Only recently having gotten back into the game after a bit of a break, I was really surprised to see this behavior from resistance fighters and dyson gatlings. Assuming my present game is typical, it seems to me they render my territory nigh-impregnable, which is rather the opposite of the intended design goals of the game as I recall. That is, they don't help you win, they just keep you from losing, which drives stalemate situations and little else.

Plus, it takes all the edge off attacks that should be a threat. I suspect in the future I'll just leave the factions in question off, but I'd certainly like to see something more interesting done with them.

I don't know what you've been playing with, but I see the resistance dying like flies all the time.

Strike Force: resistance dies
Devourer Golem: resistance dies
Hybrid Horde: resistance dies

Well, I've got a gazillion gatlings patrolling alongside those resistance ships, so I've absolutely no basis on which to judge them independently. The real problem is probably the gatlings, then.

Goodness, looks like the resistance is futile.

Eh he he he he

And I've never seen Gatlings do much, to be honest. Sure, they keep the surrounding systems clean up to two or three hops out...but unless your Dyson placement is *very* lucky, or your map is very small, I don't see it making much of a difference. Well...never made one for me.

It really depends how you have laid out your empire. The Gatlings need to know where your empire is. If you conqeur a line of worlds to the Dyson Sphere it will follow the line of your planets all the way to your world.

basicly if they see a wormhole that leads to one of your worlds they will head that way. You don't need to conquer ever world if you don't want to,but they worlds probably need to be neutered at least. But yeah they will slowly build up in your worlds if you show them the way to travel to get to you.

Of course if its an the other side of the universe you have to eat the AIP cost of getting Dysons to help out in your defense.
