Chris,

It's possible that my vista 64 system has some sort of weirdness going on, but in any event I got an older copy of AI War and did the 1000to1013 zip patch and the prerelease zip patch onto it and it was fine.  The game's certainly changed a lot since 1005 or so, more than many games change through expansions.

Thanks,
Keith

I would just like to note that the Google Analytics and Statcounter cookies don't track anything personally identifiable.

Actually what the web-tools display to you in your web-stats and what data google collects with the tracking pixel are 2 entirely different things. I didn't mean that your are spying on my privacy ;) Rather i mean that the massive use of Analytics across many websites allows google to track a user over many sites and across dynamically changing ips / browser restarts for a lifetime (unless you block them on a host file level) , and the tracking pixel is also able to "report" what url i am on right now (which is this forum thread, obviously) So with analysis google could see what i write, what my political oppinions are and what i think about regional pricing ,p.

I regard Tracking Pixels and Flash Cookies as one the prime data privacy incursions. Maybe i am just paranoid, but i'd rather have my data in the wild than in the hands of profit oriented organizations

Thanks for the info, Keith.  I'll definitely keep an eye out for this.  Since beeing mentioned on Rock Paper Shotgun and Crispy Gamer over the weekend, there has been a flood of several thousand people downloading the 1.013 and a number of them posting comments and questions here and elsewhere, so I think it must be more isolated of a thing.  I'm not sure what to do with that, unfortunately, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for more such reports.  Thanks!  And, glad you're liking all the changes.  I agree, it's really changed quite substantially, and as you can see there is oh-so-much more planned.

I see.

Sorry to revive this one but I figured out the ZedGraph.dll bug, as well as a few related install-preventing bugs that were making me pull my hair out because I couldn't get the game installed/patched no matter what I did.

Basically I had installed a version of the game to the normal Program Files location, but I had installed a newer version in another not-special-to-windows location and was trying to patch there (or later trying to install a new copy in a similar directory).  But the ZedGraph.dll file wasn't in the Program Files version and the installer would give up when it didn't see it there.

I could be wrong, but when I uninstalled my Program Files version all of a sudden I didn't get that problem anymore, and I was able to start over and have installed a working 1.999N version in Program Files now.

Just mentioning it in case any of the Steam-flood customers run into that problem ;)

Fortuantely, the Steam customers all get downloads through the Steam client, not using our installer.  But basically, the game installs to a specific location, and patches only work with that specific location, even if you have it installed somewhere else as well (as in your case).  I hope to write my own updater tool before too long, and bypass this problem completely, but we shall see.

Yes, I anticipate Steam gladly. I have not been able to use the built in updater due to my x64 OS, and have had to use the .zip updates. I will be happy to always have my game fully up to date in the future through Steam  ;D

The updater does work with x64 OSes, just as a note.  I have an x64 OS. ;)  But sometimes that updater can be a bit more flaky than I would like, just because of it working on the Microsoft MSI patching framework.  So at some point during the expansion my goal is to write my own custom updater for non-Steam, non-Impulse customers, that will be more reliable (and also work with prereleases, hopefully).

Weird. I always thought it was my x64 XP... Regardless, I like your idea to code your own. The current one never worked for me.

Most likely your version of Windows Installer is not high enough.
