Lag after some time playing.
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:51:55 pm »
Just purchased the game (great game btw) and have played it a few hours now. I've noticed that after playing for a bit (maybe 20 minutes?), I start to notice I have a lower frame rate which drops over time. I realized that if I lower my resolution and then immediately raise it back to where it was originally the low frame rate issue goes away. This is without changing any other graphical settings or changing the amount of stuff on screen. This just cycles and I repeat this every 20 minutes or so. Is this normal or am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.

Also: I am running the game on a retina macbook pro in OSX 10.9.4 through steam if thats of any use.

I am working on a revised version of the OSX build for tonight, which may help -- not sure.  I'll let you know when it is out, and we'll see!

Sadly, I still seem to lose fps as I play, but as before, when I lower and immediately raise the resolution, the fps jumps back to 40. This is with 466 ships moving around.

I had/have this problem too, but that was on the 8.000 version. At the time I thought it was my imagination, but I was running a few other application in the background and thought it was due to them sucking the load up.

Not sure it's happening with 8.001 as I've little had time to test as yet. Will give it a go later today and see if it's still occurs.

This was something we had an issue with briefly with Bionic Dues a while back, as well: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=12534

The solution there wasn't super clear in terms of what changed.

You might try setting your refresh rate to something different and see if that helps, as one idea. :/

Also, can you let me know if this happens in windowed mode?  And if you save the game and then go to the main menu and then back into the game -- without touching the screen resolution at all -- does that also solve the problem?

Alright, it seems like the reduction in frame rate still occurs in windowed mode. Also saving and reloading did not appear to improve anything. Readjusting screen resolution still seems like the best workaround so far. Haven't tried refresh rate yet.

Also, I don't know if this is already known but when playing in steam, any notifications that popup make the screen go black. Fullscreen and windowed.

Gotcha, that is very odd that it is also happening in windowed mode.  Have you played any of our other games, and had this problem with them?

And yes, on the screen going black when the steam notifications pop up, that is some unique bug specific to OSX Steam or Unity on OSX, or some combination.  Doesn't happen with linux or windows.  Hopefully that gets sorted out.
