Fleet movement question
« on: August 16, 2015, 01:10:55 pm »
Hello; new player here.

I'm trying to get a cap of anti-armor (ATK rng 8000) to attack a Core Leech guard post (ATK rng 6000).  I have auto-kite set to 1000, so what I would expect is for them to kite to just under 8000 and engage for an easy kill from outside the guard post's range.

So I select them, and right-click at a point around 7000 away, whereupon they just go there and do nothing, with the guard post clearly inside their attack range (as shown by Z+X).  If I attack-move them to the same spot, they charge forward into the guard post's guns.  If I send them to a closer point, they move to that point before the kiting behavior kicks in, unneccessarily exposing themselves to fire.

How do I give a group the order to approach a target, but to stop moving and engage as soon as they are able to fire upon it?

The Guard Post probably has Radar Dampening; preventing all enemies (except those immune to RD) from attacking outside a particular range. Check its description!

That was it; the post hashad RD 5500.  Thanks!

Suggestion:  Make Radar Dampening apparent when displaying the range circles.  Perhaps when a ship is locked on to a target with RD, its normal range circle gets dimmed, and a new, adjusted range circle appears?

You should post suggestions to Mantis, really. They might be picked up there, whereas they'll be easily overlooked by the devs (who're presently busy working on a different game). They'll get back to their Mantis backlog eventually though.
