Reinforcement ship Marks
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:30:58 am »
Is the number of reinforcement ships the AI gets adjusted based on the Mark of the ships?

I'm carefully managing my borders with Jammer stations to control the AI systems on alert, and wondering if leaving my border at a (neutered) Mark IV system is just a lose-lose compared to leaving it at a (also neutered) Mark II system, or if the AI would get fewer ship to compensate for them being Mark IV.

Yes, the AI gets fewer high mark units as reinforcement, but it isn't a perfect equivalence swap.  The AI will usually get more Mk IV units than the equivalent strength of Mk II units, so barring geographic (astrographic?) considerations, it's usually better to leave the Mk II world as your border.

One thing I've done is beachheaded the four Mark I systems next to my homeworld after destroying their warp gates.  Since they're on perpetual alert, that seems to drain off a lot of the AI's reinforcements in a way that lets me kill them easily.
