Hi all, new player with question about idle engineers
« on: July 18, 2011, 09:52:43 am »
Hello all, my name is annikk and I recently started playing AI War: Fleet Command.

I love this game, and intend to play it a lot over the next few years.  I also love the fact that it's an indie title; I spend a lot of time trying to support indie games, for example I have done a lot of work for Eufloria making levels and level design tools, and a forum skin.

I've worked my way through the tutorials and played through my first campaign, in the middle of my second.  I'm playing the campaigns in co-op with my friend Simon.

I have a question about engineers.  Often times I'll want some engineers to automatically repair all the ships in my/Simon's fleets.  So I send the engineers to the right system, and move them next to the fleet, and set them to FRD mode using V-rightclick.  At this point, one of several things happens:

1) The engineers do nothing, and just sit there.
2) The engineers repair some of the ships, but mysteriously decide to leave others on low health/with damaged engines.
3) The engineers repair all of my ships, but refuse to repair any of Simon's.

In cases #2 and #3, I can repair the damaged ships by manually selecting the engineers and right-click on each ship in turn.  However this takes ages and involves a lot zooming and micromanagement.  What is going on there?  How can I persuade the engineers to repair stuff properly?

Welcome to the forums!

What's happening is that your engineers aren't repairing some of those ships because they are too expensive to repair for the repair threshold that is set in your CTLS screen.  This is to keep your economy from mysteriously and suddenly bottoming out when the engineers decide to repair some massive ship.  If you don't like that you can set the value very high, or you can just bump it up some in order to get the engineers to repair some stuff that is more expensive without it being absolutely anything.

Hope that helps!
