: The new meteor missions...
: LintMan May 05, 2012, 11:46:33 PM
I just posted this in the comments on a Mantis issue where feedback was asked for on the meteor mission changes.  http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=7505#bugnotes
I didn't see any discussion about it on the form, so I thought I'd repost it here.  Am I the only one seeing this?

I just tried the revamped meteor mission in MP, and IMHO it's less playable than it was before, and that was with enemies and occasionally me falling through the crates.

Problems:
 - I deflected the very first meteor I saw out of the way and preparing for the second, the first supply stack suddenly exploded for no apparent reason, failure. Time elapsed: approx. 15-20 seconds.
 - Restarted the mission, just uncovering the map to find the stacks, a purple landspeeder shot hits me and explodes, catching the edge of the nearby stack. Boom, failure. Time elapsed: <10 seconds.
 - Restarted the mission again, stacks are spread very widely across the area, no two stacks can fit on my widescreen at once. One meteor hits a stack. Boom, failure. Time elapsed: approx. 30 seconds.

So I guess you can certainly say the missions are way shorter now. :D

When I played a mission each stack could take a lot of punishment before falling. Either the meteors do more damage on higher tiers or you have encountered a bug.

Do you remember the area you were attempting these missions in? I've noticed that, in Junkyard areas, the meteors trigger the explosive, destructible barrels that are all over the place. In other words, these missions are basically impossible in the Junkyard area.

On the whole, I find the change a huge improvement, personally. I'd still like for the stashes to be closer together or something, so that I'm not trying to juggle enemies, terrain, and meteors all at once, but yeah, way better than the previous incarnation.

Hmmm.  I'm not 100% sure, but it very possibly was a skelebot junkyard.  I don't recall the barrels being a problem in the past, though.  I had been under the impression that meteors didn't damage background items - at least not previously.  Maybe they changed that since the stacks are in the background now, IIRC.

That also doesn't explain the first failure; I'm quite sure that first meteor was still in the air when the supply stack exploded.
