Story and Puzzles
« on: May 11, 2012, 05:03:27 pm »
Hi

Just an opinion … I think tying the story of the game to some puzzles is really a bad idea. It's very irritating when you have to have 3 hours just to figure out how to take care of rows of 3 marbles, but more irritating on the second continent how to take care of 4 row marbles, without the ability to climb at the top because the spell that makes you small is non existent as of yet on that continent. Maybe you guys should make the puzzles optional? Or some other form of challenge … a mission?

Some puzzle rooms are harder than others; most do not require full mobility to get around to the side of the puzzles.  If you use a variety of spells (the whips, something blunt and small like fireball, and some longer-form piercing spells) the puzzles aren't that hard or time-consuming.

If you're really having trouble getting to some part of a puzzle room, there's always the transmogrify into bat scrolls that you can easily get at any point in the game.  They make you small and make moving around really easy.

Most puzzles should be solvable in under 5 minutes, using tier 1 spells you get access to for free on every continent.

Hope that helps!

Transmogrify into bat, and then one of the two whip spells to get at inner orbs.... beyond that, it's just a matter of learning the range of the whip, and making sure you're at the right distance for exactly the innermost orb you want to strike.

And if you hit the wrong things?  Simply do the exact same move from the same position a second time and it undoes the mistake.

Really, Bat + whips, that's what seems to do the trick.    Doesnt take all that long once you get it.

These rooms are SUPER rare though.....  I've found a whole two!

Mystery rooms are actually very common in pyramids; I think there's an 80% chance of them showing up there. So that's where to go if you want them!

5 minsutes doing a really boring puzzle for a tiny amount of lore? Thats not exactly reasuring.

There are splenty of ways to make them easyer, but I would love to see them being more itnresting myself!

Mystery rooms I usualy pryamid hunt if I really want to find them. Else I hear anywhere with maze rooms can have them.

I would like to see some sort of story attatched to other events, i.e. the fall of an overlord unlocking a large chunck of the mysteries, the puzzle rooms are quiet an amusing distractions but considering the number of required to get through even one mystery, it is quite an uphill strugle. If possible id like to see a central mystery focused around the objectives, such as lietuneints falls or advancing to the next tier, by doing this we could have a bit more background, while using the mystery rooms to give a better back story.
For example you could tell the tale of a legendary glyphbearer in the mystery rooms or any other side content, while the main story of the cataclysm is proactively unlocked through your normal actions.
